1974 Type 4 (412) with 1.8T subaru engine

Hy guys,
I read allot of info here,
so know it's time to show some of our work :-)

Straight from the start, but all the info is on our Blog
http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/7898/bannerhh1.jpg

we started in februari with this project
http://blogsimages.skynet.be/images_v2/002/591/234/20070412/dyn010_small150_600_424_jpeg_2591234_afea4c35af95f159ee891a52771012d5.jpg

and were working really hard to get ready for the first European buginn!!!

it started with a lot of welding to reconstruct the inner wheelwels
http://blogsimages.skynet.be/images_v2/002/591/234/20070412/dyn010_small150_600_450_jpeg_2591234_c48731a350b4d01174d0a174a048b3f9.jpg
http://blogsimages.skynet.be/images_v2/002/591/234/20070412/dyn010_small150_600_450_jpeg_2591234_043ffbc8522f69fb7f213686d7b7770f.jpg

and installing the engine :-)
http://blogsimages.skynet.be/images_v2/002/591/234/20070414/dyn009_original_500_375_pjpeg_2591234_ce42c5ffa6d19208510fbb8db6db39cd.jpg
note that we had to mesure our adaptor plate ourself!!!
Because type4 tranny's are different then bustranny's

we designed new lowered shocks
http://blogsimages.skynet.be/images_v2/002/591/234/20070416/dyn009_original_367_600_pjpeg_2591234_f843bc231dd2e39d8ef50b2a5f926b5b.jpg
they can be set from -13 to -25 cm

mouted the radiator
http://blogsimages.skynet.be/images_v2/002/591/234/20070421/dyn004_original_500_375_pjpeg_2591234_8cadbd6ab7998242f3c1d513965231a5.jpg

made a completely bolton support for the engine
http://blogsimages.skynet.be/images_v2/002/591/234/20070428/dyn004_original_500_136_pjpeg_2591234_2c838ca4b380dfcded38b0daf1954fb6.jpg
bolts on the original Subaru bolts and the original TYPE4 supportmounts

http://blogsimages.skynet.be/images_v2/002/591/234/20070428/dyn004_original_500_375_pjpeg_2591234_5f5b82f906e718bdf0c45613229d59c4.jpg

mounted oilcooler and airfilter
http://blogsimages.skynet.be/images_v2/002/591/234/20070430/dyn008_original_500_375_pjpeg_2591234_22279a9c7d614011b24c52875975ff0b.jpg

offcourse lost of other work was done
mounting the gasolinepump
return line for the gasoline
did the intire wiring harnass
Implemented it into the 412
overhaul of the mechanixs of the 412

and finally testrun :-)
movies on our blog (and ofcourse lots of details...)

sincerely
Sancho

thxs alot!
We did put alot of effort in making this conversion as clean as possible!
Engineerd the enginebrace the front suspension, radiator setup airfilter and oilcooler setup...

First think second think again and harder ;-)
3 mesure
4 construct

But at the end it's all worth it :-)
When you look at it in person it's almost like a factory setup:smirk:

Only thing that has to be tested yet is cooling at long distance and high speeds :-)

Sincerely
Tanguy

Wow, what a lot of work.
Looks like you guys have done some nice work. Good to see a 412 getting some "improvements"
Can't wait to see some more pictures of it in action.
You have one nice looking notch also!

thxs for the kind words!
we love the appreciation for this conversion,
and like it very much because it isn't a hack job it's almost like this engine is meant to be in this car!

My notch was my first conversion (1600 twincarb)
and if you want to see a little movie 0-160 km (0-100mph)
http://video.google.nl/videoplay?docid=4771425479632492329

Yesterday we passed our kind of MOT so soon you'll see some drivingmovies :-)
During the drive to the MOT we noticed that in citydriving with max speed 95km our fansetup did the work great...
So testing it at higher speeds will be next :-)
Offcourse we can still improve with a better cooler and EVANS cooling liquid
or with a little extra cooler placed in the airflow

We finally got our "track who visits you-map" on our blog working,
so it would be nice if you guys give ous a little visit, that would get some marks from Australia on our map

Sincerely
Sancho

we worked on the handling yesterday :-)
so up with the DOWNFORCE
http://blogsimages.skynet.be/images_v2/002/591/234/20070607/dyn009_original_500_375_pjpeg_2591234_8156d373584e32bffaea643ef7549b08.jpg

just kidding,
http://blogsimages.skynet.be/images_v2/002/591/234/20070607/dyn009_original_500_375_pjpeg_2591234_60f615c4e057271093124e515b8dbfa5.jpg
We wanted some more fresh airflow into to enginecompartment at higher speeds!!!
Tested it with the "wires" you see hanging at the rearwindow

from 40 to 100km/u they really are sucked under the engine lid,
and with normal driving it cooled a lot better then before!

We coudn't test a full speeds because we had a little radiatorleak before :(
So steady on the throtlle

Sincerely
Sancho

worked very hard on the car
"Found and solved some problems:#1 our water cooler had a leak - replaced it#2 the engine didn't idlle - forgot to close the vacuum port for the servo pump #3 couldn't get over 5000 RPM - air filter full of dust !#4 vacuum switch was death - replaced itRead out the ECU - everything ok nowWhile test driving we had a problem every time the turbo got under boostThe car tended to "hold in" under boostWe installed a mechanical inline fuel pressure gauge and a vacuum/boost gaugeEverytime the turbo "got in" the fuel pressure dropped to 0.8Bar instead of the consistant under no boast 2BarOur suspision would be that the fuel pump can't deliver enough pressure or flow to cope with extra needed fuel injectation under boost of 0.5BarTomorrow we will get a NEW fuel pump - fingers crossed"

and yesterday cleaned de fuelpump again and tested
we did got 4bar fuelpumppressure on full boost (notice our testsetup)
http://blogsimages.skynet.be/images_v2/002/591/234/20070610/dyn004_original_500_375_pjpeg_2591234_66ab885fbe26abaaffd2be7355c0eb63.jpg

and today we order a new pump, afterthat we change rims and tires,
test some more, order a new radiator
and we are ready for EBI
