Oil light on ??

G'day fella's,
I'm the fella who turned up at the Nat's this year, in OLD56B, rat bug from the bush.
Got a question for the more learned tech members:
My standard 36hp motor's oil light comes on when revving hard.
Oil level fine, Oil grade fine 10w ( or should I use something thicker for an engine that had ONLY done 113, ooo miles)
Could it be a dicky oil pressure sender? if so where can I get a good replacement for this type of motor?
Any feedback welcome fella's

Get rid of that 10W oil....

try 20/50 oil or even 20W/60 oil

and the oil pressure will return...

I wouldn't keep driving with 10W in it...

yes they like 30 grade gets to thin when hot
note if you change the sender make sure it's not the tapered thread type maney a vw motor has been ruined by the tapered type cracking the case

Yeah Dave you got me fella.
The old locals here reckon the cold stuff not far away now. The Catoniasta bushes are full of berries, and they reckon that a very good indicator.
Hey fella Know anyone who needs a 8 seat Baywindow bus, rolling only no box or motor. Solid a heck.
With another one for parts ??

Regards to all my friends within the club OK

If You use a tapered thread oil sender

just wrap the thread with teflon tape about 6 times

and slowly screw in....

check to see if it leaks....

don't keep screwing it in as it will crack the case...

I always use tapered oil senders with no problems...

You can also use locktite to seal the thread

Hi Dave,
I'm not sure where You are located, but all the VW shops who advertise on here would have a sender...

REPCO etc would not have them listed any longer...

Mick Motors... Brisbane etc

Pete

dont put thread tape on it as the oil light wont work as it requires a earth circuit to make it work plus the tape will expand the hole and crack the engine case

clean the areas with presol and use a small amount of gasket sealent

Thank's fella's,
Topic closed, I'll dump the thin oil, fill with the thicker oil, Run hard as usual, check sender then. Wont replace unless I have proved it's faulty.
Thanks to all re advice on tapered sender units...

Mountain man pete.
