major problem steering / suspension component?

Hi all,

Recently purchased a 71 dc and have a problem with steering / suspension component? Photo included.

I am a learner and I am not sure of correct terminology or aspect. Yet I am fairly certain that something held together in this area of the dc is not good.

No, the sway bar has been there for yonks.. I'd suggest it may have come loose.. Shaun.. Can you shake the sway bar in that corner and see if its loose in the mounting?.. Unfortunately, this DC has been sitting for a good time without daily driving..You forget the little niggles that you only really come to light with using daily..

If your switch and motor for the wiper is cactus Shaun, I'll replace them.. but I'd like to have them checked first

the problem

The problem. The bus yaws to the left and when I looked underneath I thought this may be the problem. There is a significant clunk from underneath over bumps and rises. This may also be the shocks but as I said I'm a learner, this bus is old and I don't expect it to ride like my cousins CLK450. I'm just having lots of fun riding in my kombi dc. (so did my cousin when I let him take the dc for a spin)

Rob. In regards to the wiper motor and switch the wipers are not working, I checked the fuse it was O.K. I just thought as I want to slowly restore the bus that this would be a good place to start and replace the items.

OK Shaun.. The wipers WILL definately be a wiring issue.. The whole spaghetti under the dash was a bloody mess when I replaced the indicator stalk recently.. I just didn't get a chance to trace the remaining wires.. Just patiently trace those wires mate and I'm sure the wipers will fix themselves.. There is no problem with the wiper or switch..

Re the steering/suspension issue.. Get the front of the cab up on stands if you can and crawl under neath.. Give everything a good inspection.. I am sure nothing is broken.. You will probably find a loose bolt here and there.. Definately check the shock mounts and the sway bar fittings.. The steering arms etc are all good..

Hope this helps.. You have a good machine there mate.. Just needing the TLC which I know you will provide..

Thanks Rob, I may need to reduce my excitment and not rush into things. Plenty of TLC for the dc just want to keep her happy.

Shaun.

get the front whels camber and caster done and allined you will find maney of the steering items will go and the lad doing it will set you straight about any other problems and this is reasonably cheep to do so go and ask your local tyer dealer for help
