56 oval rag

After selling my 56 oval I thought i'd remove all the details I had about it from this topic.
I now will just post info about the project I'd been working on.
Its another 56 oval

Have a few beers and get out the angle grinder.
I find this settles the nerves.

Welding

Used a mild steel wire with a high silicon content.
Found this wire flowed really well.
Also welding with a tig.
Mig welding a roof clip gives you a hard beed of weld that is hard to work with later.

Finished product

Clip is all welded in and ready for a bit of work with the flipper.
This will get the roof back into shape that the heat has produced.
Next is the front spare wheel well as it needs a bit of work.

No chop top here

No need to do a chop top with an oval.
but lets just say with the mods on this oval it will run a few PSI.
I want to keep the body as stock as possible.
But it will run disc brakes and a better engine than stock.:thumbnn[ Edited on 8-8-2005 by BUGBOY ]

Died in the ASS

Well this projects come to a stop and the only thing thats getting a good work out is the fridge.
Might have to pull the plug!
Pulled the old shitty mirrors off the TINKDF and put on some others.
As for the rag project i`ll start on that again next week.

18 again

Well I have only done a little work on this car since the last post on here.
Been working on a late model type 3 sqaure back for the wife.
Also I now have a 7 week old daughter called Eve.
This has taken up so much time.

The rag roof has had about 18 hours spent on it with hammer and dollies and has been filed back to near full metal finish.
It has also been lead wiped to fix any areas that just wouldn`t come to the party.
I`ll post pictures up early next week.

Here is the roof all filed back.
Never thought it would be so hard to find the flux to do this job, also files that don`t clog up.
Had to find files which where like what you would use on wood.

As you can see it does give a nice finish which will last for ever.
The big plus with using this method is that the roof of a car can get very hot in summer and advantage of this stuff is it will move with the body eg. expands and contracts with the heat with out cracking.
Don`t get me wrong as filler would work just as well if done right as it has come a long way over the years but I like the old school methods.
Next is to clean it all down and get it in primer.

Might even make some sinkers with the left overs:thumb
