Aussie Vee Dub Magazine

So people what is happening to this idea ? It seems to have died in the ass like those who had the idea before.

The interest we have had in the Collectors Edition of Manx Mania confirms our belief that there is a market for it.

Once the collectore edition is out Wes and I are considering producing a multi part mag that will cover off road / other VW's.

Once again it will be a full colour 72 page plus covers production. The mag would cost $13.95 AUD or $15 AUD with postage. It will all come back to interest I guess.

The question is do people think this is too much money ?? I have looked into an internet option but it can't make enough $$$ to make it worth our while.

Don't get me wrong I am not asking for pledges or any of that stuff, just askinf for feedback in reagards to cost and if people think it it to expensive to bother with. Yes we could do it cheaper without colour but I hate black and white mags so am not interested in doing it that way.

So what say the arm chair magazine conisours ??

I think we need something, but all to often it falls in the ass. My initial thought was that you may be asking too much for a home grown mag [given VWTrends, HOT VWs is $13], and should be closer to other periodicals [$8]. If it was quarterly, then that would possibly justify the cost.

well

I am actually talking yearly ... I ain't got enough time to do it more than that.
If I was going to print as many as Hot 4's and the likes then I could sell them cheaper but I haven'tgot $15 000 to invest in a mag.

Mag

The thing I need to get accross here is that it is a content mag not a mag for mags sake. I look at the mags in the newsagency and I see a few good article and heaps of crap. I mean add after add after add. I liked the old sckool mags that had maybe 4 pages of adds at the rear, more like a directory than a pain in the butt. That is what we would be looking at doing. A kind of VW directory in the rear. Say a 1/4 page add max per business. then they don't screw with the content. the mag itself would be full of feature vehicles and articles.
I know this is not the smart way to sell ads but is the smart way to get readers. This may change, it will depend on what sponsors think and what sells best.

My answer to that is read the magazine posts. There is heaps of people offereing help and he got 3 I say again 3 articles. If I am putting my name to something then I want to ensure it happens, therefore, as the old saying goes I will use my people and do it my way.
I am more than happy to publish articles that other people have written and produced, even happier to give them credit. I shall not be depending on this happening though as most people are slackers ( myself included ) they like to talk the talk but not type the words or take the pictures.
If you are volunteering to help out, feel free to send any articles you woudl like to see in print.

yearly is all we could handle at the moment.

The plan is to try to get one out in small production, and see how it goes. If it sells well, then we'll publish a bigger run, which will reduce the cost. The more mags that sell, the more me and Brad will want to put effort into making them a more regular thing.

For at least the first run I think it's best being me and Brad, so that we can negotiate the potholes of magazine publication. We already have money for our collectors offroad magazine, so failure to produce one due to bad decisions is not an option. Like the saying goes, too many cooks spoil the broth.

The publication cost is very high for small number production runs, so that is why the magazine cost is high. Myself and Brad don't have thousands to gamble on the chance of selling a high production run. So we will start small and see if we grow.

I'l be buying one! i think if the content is upto scratch then the money is well worth it. yearly is a wise start, that way you can move to 1/2 yearly and quarterly if interest is big enough, Il be happy to lend a hand too if necessary.

$15.00 Cheap.

Have you considered putting a quantity on ebay - I'm sure other dubbers in other countrys would snap them up.
