Newer T2's made in Mexico/Brasil - Australian Importer?

I've been reading with interest about "band new" T2's being made in Brazil/Mexico.

Now I realize that such pale imitations could never hope to achieve the character and purity of a "proper" T2. However I would be interested in finding out more about the option - does anybody know if there is an Australia importer?

I can only find links to UK importers:

http://www.beetles-uk.com/camper.html

Thanks fellas!!

Be sure to check whether they comply with ADR's, esp with regard to emissions. They might not.

if you own it for 12 months you can import 1 as a personal import. the brazill vw's are good but when / if you get one, strip it rust proof it and fit everything back properly, i saw a couple in the uk and the finish just wasn't 100% but still a good vw!
i think importing 1 from uk might be easier than gettin 1 from brazil.

they still have to meet the adrs even as a personal import and i can tell you now they have a lot of work needed to meet the current standards as they will due to the build date. not worth the trouble in oz im afraid try contacting fermans in sydney i know they had a twin cab body sitting there that they imported a couple of years ago

Thanks for the warning about the ADR etc. Will avoid this option. Also it some how seems soulless to buy a modern imitation of an old classic - like buying a "new mini" or "new beetle" and expecting them to have the same character.

Its just not going to happen.

It is not necessarily like buying a "new mini" or "new beetle", as they only borrow some style lines, and that is about all.

The Brazil bus is not too far removed from being a reproduction of bay busses. It has many panels that are same, and many that are interchangeable. It is the quality that is different, and the ADR minefield and cost would just not be worth it for the outcome.

Pre ADR27 (1972) busses and pre ADR27A (1 July 1976) busses make life so simple, and there are many still very available for a fair price.

You could 'restore' a rusty Aussie one using as many new parts as possible - inlcuding of course a new shell

Not eactly a cheap option is it when you look at the prices but they are really interesting especially the water cooled engine.

How about buying one in the uk and then driving it back to oz, write a book, get someone famous involved, have a tv show too.

I'd buy one - the book anyway!

Figures have been worked on these a couple of years ago and it would be over $AUD50,000 landed before registration problems.
You could buy a good one here and spend $20,000 and still be in front.
