engine hanging by a thread
literally hanging by a thread.
I wondered if anyone could advise, my engine is supported on the jack, everything is loose and it moves but it keeps bringing the transmission with
it.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I'm really struggling with keeping the transmission where it is while I pull on the trolley jack holding my prised possesion
Any help would be great, thanks guys
Nat

Maybe it's not being pulled _straight_ back, and is sticking on the shaft. Tried it at slightly different angles?
I presume you _have_ removed all four tranny--engine bolts? Did they all have four?
There's also maybe a starter motor wire down there, not sure about bugs...
Cheers, A.

from prev posts, 76 kombi.
You know it is easy to drop both engine and trans.
pull the engine back as far as you can.
jack up and down a little at the same time as you pull. phone a friend!
luck

I had to take my exhaust off to pull mine back far enought to clear the pressure plate. Oh and one time i forgot to disconnect the accellerator and
now i have a bent shrowd tube and throttle lever.... Opps. I also found it hard to clear the lower gearbox/engine studs even with the exhaust off
(till i found out that it was cable stopping me)

well after a week of pulling and tugging I finally got there. Thanks so much for all your help.
Just kept lowing and moving from side to side.
the reason why I didn't want the trans out too was because I couldn't get the bolts undone on the CV joints, so I thought hell to it, it can stay
there!
But with an hour every night after work it's now finally sat in the middle of my garage waiting to be destroyed by me hehehehehe.
Thanks again guys! You really are stars

So was there a reason for it not wanting to come out or was it just being stubborn?

It's not really hard to put back in, you just need the right angle on the dangle!
Also, to help line up the splines etc I found that a combo of jiggling and rocking the bus in gear also helps. As long as it's not jacked up though!

With the rear end jacked up, put it in 4th gear and rotate the wheels back and forth if you have trouble with the spline.
