Standard beetles were the poverty pack & went without a few things that superbugs had that ran concurrently. Standards had drun brakes all round, swingaxles rear suspension & 1300 twin port engine compared to disk brake front, irs rear & 1600 engine to name a few.
standards ran from 71 to 74 as far as I know, supers & L bugs from 71 onwards with struts.

Cheers
Brendan

If it's a 1972 bug with 4 stud drum brakes, it will also be a ball joint front end and swing axle rear. Nothing special but known as a 1300 model.
