Grease in oil pump

How much grease do you put in the oil pump when you put it back in? sorry to be asking so many questions.

I don't put any grease in the oil pump...
You slightly oil it with engine oil....

once the oil light goes out, You have some oil pressure...

You can of course slightly grease the oil gears etc with lithium based Moly grease... it will soon disperse in the oil...
but engine oil will do....

pic of My ATF engine oil double pump -

cheers

Vasoline

Homer,
For an instant prime (relatively) pack your pump with vasoline. It disperses well.

Second method is slather assembly lube over your high wear bits, plugs out, and crank it over as much as possible after your oil light goes out. Plugs in and fire away for break-in.

Nice shot of the S-A double pump Lee:thumb

Hi Sean,

I did write about taking the spark plugs out and then deleted it...
thought it may have been overkill...

as you know many people do nothing....

bolt it on and start the engine.... :o

I wish You would keep the cold temps down Your way..
lol..

when i started the v8 for first time i took out didtributor and fit a pipe over the oil pump gears and connected it to drill, that primed the system sweet as!!!

worked a treat

yes great idea to spin the engine over with now spark plugs in and allow the oil system to prime up

once teh engine has started i like to remove the rocker covers and watch oil drip from each of the push rods as its running ensuring theres oil pressure and its getting up to the rockers

Hi

Remove the oil light switch while your cranking with the plugs out is a good idea. Never start a new motor unless the oil light is out.

Steve
