Try here:
http://www.northursalia.com/modifications/misc/wiring/wiring.html

there are alot of different ecu pinouts so it helps to know the exact year, model etc.
Alternatively you could post a pic of the ecu and/or its model no. and I can probably get a pinout diagram for you.:smirk:

Hey supa74
I found a full workshop manual that covers the '94 - '97 BG5 etc
its a big download (46.19mb) so I havent had time to check
if it covers your engine & ecu. its at:
http://www6.evilshare.com/03e66a4a-d5a3-1029-b2ec-00a0c993e9d6

If this is the right one let me know and i'll post it on my site to
help others (lots of people lookin for this one!!).

p.s. your ecu should be no-2 on this pic:

Ok, so that download is for the next model on from yours (ecu no 7 on that pic). If yours is ecu no4
then its probably a 1988-1993 model.

This link definately covers ecu no4 (I checked)
http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru_manual_scans/

I think the differences between Aussie liberty's and U.S. legacy's may be whats causing some confusion.:blah

ok i found out why it would not work for me.. its the number 6 after the www
suppose to be http://www.evilshare
ok thats what the problem was.
mines not a US legacy.. its straight JDM from japan. US some odd reason dont carry the twin turbo motor. freakin stupid.. seems aussie has the best in alot of things im realizing.

hey thanks for that link.. checkin that out now.. and will download the other link tonight as well..

ok its - 1992_FSM_(Engine_&_Electrical)
then - 1992_Subaru_Service_Manual-Engine_&_Wiring.zip

this manual isn't the best quality so i copied the main ecu diagrams and posted them here -

Hey Bruce,
Im fairly certain that the ej16 has the same wiring as the ej20, if this is the case you can find diagrams for it on my site: http://www.geocities.com/gazman_4/wiringgallery.html
or, as Supa74 did, you can send me a pic of your ecu plugs and I can find the appropriate wiring diagram for you.
As for what sensors to run, if your using the stock ecu then your better off using all the sensors, air flow meter etc that came with your motor. The factory ecu will need all of these to run the engine properly.

ej16 upgrade - for Gazman

Gazman here is a picture of my ecu. Do you have a diagram that matches?????? When wiring engine management do i just cut out extra sensors???? Air-con, gearbox, dash, etc. Will the engine run fine without these?

Thanks Bruce... awaiting your reply

Bruce,
You can find my e-mail address on the 'Contact' page on my website.
Things like aircon and dash/instrument inputs etc are not required to run the engine, however on automatic trans models they do recieve a signal from the A/T control unit and Im not sure if removing this will affect performance (anybody else know this?) . You should also try and run some sort of speed sensor if the subie ecu had one originally.

Hi gazman !
yes, I know it's a very rare ECU. I have wiring diagram for almost all Impreza from 1994 and Legacy from 1995 to 1999 and it's simply impossible to find it. The most close I could find is a 96 pin ECU.
Well, the engine it's an EJ20 from Legacy 1997. In fact the car is a Impreza 1994 1.8l that had the engine broken and it was replaced by this one.

ECU is labeled: 22644 AA070 and A56-000 R29. There is a big 4J in blue.

Hope it helps...

Thank you in advance !

wow that ecu is rare! I cant even find a replacement part no. for it :sniffle:
Looks like you might have to go and hound your local Subaru dealer for some info. 22644 AA070 is the part no.
Subaru have a tech-info site that might help but it does cost a little money to use it - http://techinfo.subaru.com/html/index.jsp

Sorry i couldn't be more help, hope you find what you need.

I also have one of these. I can't find anything about it anywhere. I have sent emails to Subaru but got no response. Somebody has to have a pinout.

Hi Ernie !
It's really difficult to find this pinout. My conclusion is we cannot find any jdm wiring on the net, only usdm.... I tried to find on google.co.jp but withou sucess too.
I'll try to go to subaru dealer on another city nearby to see if they have this wiring....

i like to find out if anybody knows how to do the wiring. like what wires do i need to keep and what ones do i not want? i know i dont need power steering, airbag,
i do want to keep the ac and the wires for using subaru gauges. but what i dont know is what wires is the critical ones that i do need to keep. im guessing the fuel, main ones off the engine??? i have a 94 jdm subaru twin turbo motor.
and im guessing i just splice in my vw 74 beetle main wires in with the subaru harness?

I started by labelling all the plugs...aircon, wipers, instrument panel etc. then i shortened every wire to get rid of the tangled mess. I built supports to hold the ecu and relay fuse boxes in the engine bay(kombi) then i installed it and fired it up then piece by piece i was alble to remove wires and see if they had any effect. I'm still sorting wires to reconnect but driving everyday. I have the instrument panel installed and want to install the subaru steering column wands for indicators wipers etc. you need lots of patience but the wiring all starts to make sense:yes:
