Help with Buying!

In a moment of weakness I paid a deposit for a early 60's Beetle.

I have to wait a while before I collect it.

It has a perfect motor which is newly rebuit and beefed up just a little so this isnt an issue.

I am a bit nervous about going through with the sale as I am new to Beetles and really have little idea what to look for.

Can anyone give me some advice or direct me somewhere so I can find out what to look for and look out for?

I am prepared to forgo my deposit if it doesnt all check out and wait for something else if required.

So you help would be greatly appreciated!

Rust is the main thing to look for as a negative

As a positive - as John Muir said "Karma"
Do you smile when you hop in it.

All the mechanicals can bolt on and off.
Easy fix.

Rust is the hard part.
Paint is next. But Paint can hide rust.

Dont be fooled into bargains.
Have a look at Stenguns post in Members Rides.
$30k is easy to spend restoring a beetle properly.

Hi

If you buying your car in SA cars seem to rust less down there. I think that maybe you should join a VW club and ask an experienced member to come along with you to check out the car.

If theres no or very little rust and no/minimal smoke under acceleration thats a good start. These would be two of the more expensive things to fix.

If you drive an aircooled Volkswagen be proud of it and leave the aircooled engine in it!!!

So Mervan when do you get the car, or have you changed your mind?
