Door Rubbers
So door rubbers.... front side and rear.
Do you have to remove the check straps on the front, the hinges on the back etc or can the rubbers be cut and shut? After the best way...
If they can be cut what are they glued back together with?
What sort of compound should be used between the new rubber and the door when applying them?

From memory, no you don't have to remove the hinges or door locks to replace the door sealing rubbers. You WILL have to unhook the door check rod
though. Just push out the little pin holding the door rod to the body, swing the arm to one side and fit the rubber. Put it back afterwards.
The rubber will be a tight fit at the door lock, but it can be squeezed into place with a wide screwdriver or 2cm paint scraper.
Normal contact glue is fine. I found the newer Selleys contact gel to spread a bit more neatly and easily. You don't need much, just a smear.

Door rubbers shouldnt be glued in place.
VW went to a lot of trouble to make a nice metal section that they push into.
I take it you need to reduce the rubbers in length n height so as to fit your chopped door.
Loctite super glue 401 will re joing the rubber correctly.
No you dont have to remove the locks of check straps as you can get around them.
Use a wooden wedge ( VW Tool # 57) to push the rubber into place.

actually they are standard doors... it's for the bus... but thanks anyway Dave. I'll keep that in mind as the chop progresses

loctite may have same specs as............
Super Glue will stick rubber together great - I use it on rubber belts in cassette players etc.
Even that cheap Supa Glu stuff works,

No Glenn ive tried the cheap shit and it is shit wlthough it says the same crap inside its just does not work as good as the Loctite.
I know it more epensive ... and all the rest of the stuff but it just wont stick the rubber for some bloody reason.
