australia IS at the top of the world!

i kid you not, i was looking at the news when i read a story about the earth passing thru the TUTTLE comet debris, unfortunatly australia will not see the meteor shower in the early hours of sun and monday mornings.
this got me thinking, "why not?"
i found that the eath is falling thru space, so i figured that if the earth was to fall thru a comets tail why would we not see the meteor shower?, we are always depicted at the bottom of the planet, things just dont fall up, its not right!

therefore i conclude that as the northen hemisphere WILL see the specticle, they must pass thru the debris first, causing a shadow which we in Aus will be in !

does this make sense? cheers dudes

Jon. I think that what matters here is which part of the sky the debris from Tuttle is in and whether or not that part is in Australia's night sky at that time.

Every year the northern hemisphere sees the Leonid Showers of meteorites in November/December. At that time the Constellation of Leo is in the northern hemishere's night sky, so they see it and in Oz we don't.

Why we don't see the Leonid Showers when Leo is in our night sky is that the meteor stream coming from the direction of Leo is on the other side of the earth's Orbit around the sun. When the earth is in that part of it's orbit the northen hemisphere has Leo in its night sky.

Also what matters is, in which direction the debris is moving. If it is moving down relative to the usual way in which the earth is shown, with Oz underneath, then we will efectively be in a shadow and we won't see it, no matter what constellation it's in.

I think that's how it is.

Richard.

Just because I gave up smoking "green vegetable matter" a long time ago, it doesn't mean that I can't rave on like I'm still using it. LOL.
