Australia's Overweight

Did anyone here catch that commercial on TV? Saying something like half of Australians are some what overweight. I think its quite an exaggeration, i know we enjoy our fast-food but its such a unrealistic number. Having said that, if its true, how do we go about fixing it?

can here the ad here

I'm not fat but I reckon when I hit 40, I'll go grey and bald. As I have long hair, I am in preparation for the mother of all comb-overs...

Hey, you guys haven't got anything to worry about unless the comparison is made between Oz and the UK....oh we have some fatties over here and on a little island with a population of 60million they take up twice the space...

I guess your right about a sinking Island! The UK is getting smaller. lol :o

Aussies are not over weight, with my brief time in the US yesterday on my way to canada, i saw nothing but fat yanks, an image i am trying to remove from memory, no wonder they drive canyonaro's, they need it to move their fat arse around.

This is my Volkswagen, there are many like it, but this one is mine. Without me my Volkswagen is useless, without my Volkswagen, I am useless.

Guess so, travelled to europe again recently and heard they're now handling a obesity problem over there since they had fast-food. i know aussies love their fast-food, and most likely the US, ought to feed our kids something healthier.

I'm a bit over weight, but my problem is that old saying, "Everything I like is either illegal, immoral or fattening." I eat a good diet with only occasional junk food, but my main problem is that I eat too much.

As far as I'm concerned, we need to make a regular exercise program and the playing of sport, to be compulsory in all schools, as it was when I was a kid back in the 1950s.

We had an hour of full on exercise in the gymnasium 3 times a week and every Wednesday afternoon we all had to play a full game of some sport, depending on the season. No-one was allowed to be excluded. Even the kids with polio had to participte as scorers or some such.

Every Saturday we were expected to represent the school in inter-school sports.

Like so many things we need to go back to basics.

it's a simple matter of burning off more calories than you consume.
easy maths is if you eat a double quarter pounder value meal with cheese, you need to get off your lazy ass and burn off the 50kcal you've just stuffed yourself with.

My motto is food isn't fattening, not excersising is.

A couple of years ago could get away with eating anything and still stayed thin.
Now that i've hit 21 i think my metabolism has slowed and i'm getting some fat on me!
I have an addiction tho.. whenever i get hungry all i really crave is fatty food!!
Is there a FFEA? (Fast Food Eaters Anonymous)

i know most schools these days have sporting activities only once a week, a lot less to what u have mentioned. that is the problem, australia has great weather and its perfect for being outdoors, but schools believe in the academic sides of thing. Exercise and being active is very important.
