Hi from Ireland
Hi just found this forum as we are in the (very) early stages of emigrating to Perth, we hope to move in about a year or so.
I am also in the early stages or building a cal-look oval (LHD '55) with 2276 IDA motor, Rancho pro-comp, Fuchs etc.etc.
So I have some important questions for you all -
What issues would I be likely to encounter bringing such a car with me to Australia, in regard to testing and registration?
What's the veedub scene like in Perth, any drag racing?
Any advice or input appreciated. Thanks in advance

Welcome ...looking forward to some pics ...id expect youd need some engineering certificates to register ...not that difficult in NSW

This was mine until a few months ago -
it needed some work and when I began collecting parts I came across this for sale -
I couldn't resist - It's the cleanest, straightest oval I've seen already blasted and rust free.
Perfect oppotunity to start over and do a complete nut and bolt resto and build a fast and tidy oval.
The old one was around 100bhp and found a new home, so I set out building the new one, aiming for 180bhp.
I presume an engineers cert will cover brakes, suspension etc.? What are the laws regarding lights, indicators and LHD?

Send Nick (boomerdog) on here a u2u. He bought a car in from England and got it registered. He is the most recent person that I know of who has gone
through this procedure. However, his car was registered in NSW not WA, so I'm not sure what the differences are. Of anything, make sure that you have
all of your paperwork with you for proof of ownership etc etc.
Here's the thread that deals with what Nick went through. One thing I know that he did is that he stripped all of his stereo out just in case bits
went missing in transit.

Slainte and welcome to AVW. My family live in Castlebar Co Mayo. I haven't imported from Europe, but you can import your car as a personal import
without much trouble. I think you may have to prove you've owned and used it for 12 months or so.
The engineers reports are really to cover your modifications.
Cheers
Steve
p.s. Here's a pic of the 68 beetle I still have in Ireland outside Ashford Castle.

It is - Ireland and UK are RHD.
EDIT: OK sorry ^ that was a pre-coffee post early this morning
I know now you were talking about the oval which has a steering column bolted in RHD (bought it that way) but no dash or pedal cluster so I'm
sticking with LHD,
they were designed that way and I find them easier to drive.

Just found this -
http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/yourvehicle/1384.asp
6 months to convert to RHD?? Does that apply to vintage cars too?
