Does anyone know a good way to get rid of clean fill?

We've dug about 3m of clean fill out of the garden where the new shed and path are, but I don't really want to pay to take it to the tip. Does anyone have any brilliant ideas on how to get rid of it?

(If anyone wants it, I'm in eastern Melbourne)

Thanks :D

Sign on front fence sounds good, except I'm in a dead end street. Not too much passing traffic.
I've just found out about the council thing, am going to give them a ring to find out.

Thanks all for your help!

call a landscaper it will be gone in a week

or top dress your lawn with it

or make a raised vege patch

or spread it under the house

or put it in your pocket when you go for a walk, and share it with everyone

Hi

I could give you recipes containing soil, then you could eat your way through it or maybe make a mud brick & dung shed.

be careful about putting it on other peoples properties. sometimes planning permits are required for filling. just a heads up.

also, another heads up for people, some earthworks contractors avoid the cost of paying for disposal of fill by advertising it as 'free fill delivered'. many people have fallen for this and got stung later when the council shows up and tells them they have to remove the fill.

If your house is up on piers then you could spread it out under the house evenly

Or.. you could get inspired by the lads from 'the great escape', put the dirt in specially concealed pockets in your pants, when walking about to the shops to get a chiko roll you can discreetly release the dirt. good enough for steve mcqueen, good enough for me. only downside is that if you get caught you will probably get shot by someone called hans.

Ok, have rung the council, who have a clean fill disposal list. There's only one place on it but it is MILES away. Not worth the petrol to tow it there. Got onto the website of the people who have that site, and there is another one close to me, but it is $40 +GST per trailer load. Same as taking it to the tip (which is closer).

So much for that!

Hey Jay

You can always dry the dirt, wait for windy day and throw it in the air.

I'll take a trailer load

Jay,
I am in South Melbourne and could use some fill. My trailer holds about 1.3M, so I would take at least that much off your hands if you still have this available.

U2U me or send me an email if you are keen............. JRWjr

Don't worry Jay, I know how you feel. I have had about 30 cubic metres of dirt on the front lawn slowly decreasing in size over the last few months. I tried the council too, and no help. I am down to about 10m now, and I am just going to pay to get rid of it. The excavator guy has more digging to do, and he can do free tipping of clean dirt out in Coldstream, but it is just the cost of the trucking I have to do.

If you lived in Warilla I would say the best bet would be to put a sign on it. "Dont take my dirt!" no way it would be there in 24 hours.

Dont know if there's one in Melbourne but look up freecycle on google.
