Fuel filter advice for T3
Has anyone any advice/experience with brands/models of fuel filters for T3s?
I want to replace the filter in my '82 Transporter (with EJ22 for 5 years) and am interesed in others' experiences/comments/suggestions.
A Ryco Z168 has been suggested by Repco, but I am interested in further comments.

I thought the T3 had a "filter for life" type thing??
A large cylinder just after the pump ???
What is the matter with yours??
Try asking on the Brickyard??

Yes, it has a filter for life, but after 25 years . . .?
My pump has been mnaking a little more noise over the last couple of thousand km and it won't be cheap (though don't yet know what I'd get). A
couple of US sites I have read suggest changing the filter first when the pump starts complaining. This makes sense. . at $20-30 it might be a good
investment in any case.

Funnily enough the same thing has just happened to mine.
Luckily (for me) some one here had a NOS one for $190.
Havent put it in yet but will need to soon
I might ask over at the Brickyard

Went out and bought the filter for $17 at Supercheap. It is larger than the original so I hope that's a plus.
I also looked at ebay and a couple of US sources i have used and the genuine pump is around that price but there are alternatives offered at around
US$100. I'll have to make a decision before long, I suspect.

The original fuel filter (or at least 20 years old replacement) in the vehicle was a Z391. So much for being "for life" - it was very full of
crud, but fortunately no lumps of rust.
I replaced it with a VF8 (Z186), a filter used in later VWs and many other makes. This is much larger that stock, but the OD of the nipple toward the
fuel pump is smaller that that on the Z391 so I epoxied some copper tube over it with appropriate material.
The cost of the much smaller Z391 is around $60+ in Bne and it has a much smaller filtering area compared to the $17 VF8.
The fuel pump now sounds as though it has been silenced.
