Engine will not idle

I have a 1600 s/p Type 1 engine in my Baja. I've tried to get it to idle. Since I've had it, its never idled, its always reved to keep it going when I stop to give way or something like that.
I've had the carbi off and to bits and put it back together and it still either stops or revs.
Is there something I've missed? Please any ideas?

mmmm

Sounds like it could be an air leak in the manifolds.

I am guessing that timing is right and everything else is set up correctly.

Also check the shaft for slop on the carb and your end float.

The manifold studs pull rather easily on an older car (voice of experience) and the gaskets are also prone to failure. If you have a leak at the manifold/head junction, no amount of fiddling with the carb will fix it. Try the old trick of spraying WD40 or similar around the joints to see if speeds up.

Great! I'll try that tomorrow. I hadn't thought of that.
I'll let you know how it went.
