Early VW rally/trials success, Sth Africa

bored out of my brain with little to do because of my broken leg, I was wading through my fathers scrap book that he compiled in 1954-1956, consisting of evry possible VW article you could think of.out of newspapers & magazines etc - the Australian reliabilty trials success in the 50's & VW domination has benn done to death, almost to the point of being boring, howver I found some mention of an absolutley astounding result in South Africa, The 1954 South African Coronation Safari Reliabilty Road Test.. 51 cars entered, only 14 finished, 6 Volkswagen beetles entered, all finished, they came 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th & 6th, that is just incredible , but I can not find any more details, must be something somewhere on the internet

http://www.rallybugs.com/safari.htm

I managed to dig this up, a very interesting read. It sounds like the VW's were very dominant in most years of the rally.

Interesting as I knew of the EAST African safari, how easy it is to forget just how ridiculous the adverts & promotional material was pre consumer affairs etc I have 2 newspaper articles (obviously written from VW promo material) & one advert stating SOUTH African Coronation rally blah blah, & the other info I gave above, but it was not exactly true....
my favourite VW advert which I cant bring to hand at the moment was one widely used in the mid fifties in Australian motoring magazines which amongst other things stated that the aircooled motor in the car was built at much more expense than watercooled motors & of course that it could not overheat
