Engineering a LHD in Vic
Does anyone know whats needed to get a LHD car registered in Vic? I was told I need to get the installation of the seatbelts engineered. What does it
cost and who does it?
Thanks

As far as I know, there are no special requirements for a LHD car but the car must meet Australian Road Rules (I think that is the legislation?!)
requirements eg: seatbelts must meet Australian standards
Do you mean you need to get non-standard seatbelts engineered? Or the OE seatbelts checked?
Call Vicroads, they will explain all

not sure that that is entirely true, possibly it was mandatory to wear seatbelts if they were fitted to your car, but i dont believe that the
mandatory fitment of belts came into play until 1970 or 1972? i drive a 1967 Ovlov (avatar), first registered in 68 and it came with factory front
seatbelts but no rear belts

Holdens had factory fitted seatbelts in the front of all cars from 1966, and rears from 1972.

Name a post '66 car that does NOT have seatbelts fitted? VW had them from '62 (front & back) optional. check under your rear seat you will find
the seat belt mounting brackets. Law was not retrospective so if your car NEVER had them fitted you do not have to fit them, BUT if they are there,
then they have pass inspection.
