this is a classic case of someone thinking because a car is old it must be worth a mint regardless of what it is or condition it in. Even the Poms wouldnt buy it at that price.

speaking of optimistic for the same money u can have one high quality softtop bug
not just a volkswagen but a volkswagOn

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/volkswagon-convertible_W0QQitemZ150176573737QQihZ005QQ...

yes complete with only a single port, ratty original vynil interior and jokes on the owner if that thing ever needs a blue slip it wont pass with out major reconstruction
convertables need the roll bar connected to the rear wheel arches and the chassis bracing underneath not just the B pillar where the roof was cut off like this one and most of them out there

just some advice to anyone contemplating buying one of these stylish vws LOL

I wonder if anyone out there is still cutting the roofs off Beetles?

I would hope that the practise died out years ago

luckilly it pretty much has
but there is still a handfull that suffer for it

there was a guy down in ballina a couple years ago who built trailers and he thought there would be a huge market for them around here so he bought about 4 bugs and started cutting the tops off

heheh that one turned around and bit him in the arse LOL

$10000 OVAL

This is exactly how i found my oval 5 years ago and I paid a third of that for it. Do the math

$10,000 purchase
$10,000 cheap resto

total $20,000 done on the road

worth maximum of $12,000 on the road

That's a cheap arse resto to if you want a detailed resto double it and half again

Hi

There was guy in Victoria selling overpriced bugs on Ebay and they were all "workshop tested".

A Volkswagon is trailer that you tow behind a Volkswagen.

I remember when the choptop fad started, these cars went silly money and most of them looked good as far as paint and trim was concerned but were just worn out old rust buckets underneath.

Some cars aren't too bad with a chop top. I bought a new VL Calais Turbo back in 88 that had a cabriolet conversion by Bill Buckle. It really suited the VL lines. I'm only aware of him doing one other VL - a Berlina. Cops used to pull me over to check it out.
