I think all the short ones, that is the one if you have a bonnet badge, were aluminium, but they do make them in stainless steel now, I was able t get one from George at Classic Vee Dub, but when he gets them in he sells out of them pretty quick, you could give him a ring & if he had one I am sure he would take it to the shootout for you

Please, I need drivers side window regulator (winder mechanism) for my '54 http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/Kombikim/avatar1.jpg

I've been told they do exist because the 61-62 model was the first to go stainless and it also had the black wolfsburg badge?? If you cut down a later trim one end will be square not rounded at both ends. I've tried Classic Kombikim, George tells me that a you were able to get yours because someone had bought a whole set but didn't need the bonnet trim, so it was left over. Stainless trims can only be purchased as a set. Thanks for your help anyway.

You can cut down the long strips...
You then file down the end, so it fits over the wolfsburg
crest mounting piece [which is aluminium..]

You would need a good pic or an old one to see how its cut and filed...
as You have to shape the end...

G'day Dave, It looks like you can get them from overseas though. I have the 6 pieces in Stainless just need the short bonnet one. Looks like I might have to cut one as I cant justify buying a complete set.

How about some more info from that documentation..

I love reading them
and I'm sure other VW owners would too....
I never have enough info about beetles...

oddly enough, the early narrow trim was also aluminium..
its very easy to damage... and isn't as bright as stainless steel...
