V Force had a fresh built one the other day - may still have it.
Whatever - there are not freely available

Classis had a "new" one the other day

Whatever - expect to pay $500+ for a "fresh" one
$250 for a good 2nd hand

Personally i would get one and rebuild it.

i have 2 that were "ok" had a few clunks in them
You can have one of those for a case of amber and then get it rebuilt or if yours is REALLY stuffed then put it in

Thanks guys... Bizarre it's not so much a matter of the steering box being stuffed as just plain non-existant!:D I saved the bug from being axed by the scrapman so needless to say it is missing a few bits... the steering box being the main issue at the present. :)

I'll probably grab the one that is cheapest... at the moment I guess that would be one of Bizman's ones... you can't half tell my arse is as tight as a nun's whatsit!?! :dork: First priority is to just get the thing easily mobile without having to yank on the wheels to steer em. :td:

Just for the record what be you amber tinted liquid of choice?

that one will work but the only prob is cos its an earlyier one it hasnt got the late style drop arm like u need for shmeetle
so ur steering would have no stops and would keep turning till something hit

this is the later style drop arm
those 2 bolts limit ur lock to lock
earlier ones like the one on ebay dont have them on the drop arm,
they have them on the idler assembly on the other side of the car instead
my steering box isnt real old but some clever idiot put gearbox oil in it so it leaks past the seals
theyre ment to be full of grease
