Rocker stud needed


Does anyone have a rocker stud they can give/sell me. It's for a 1200 motor.

I've just broken mine trying to tighten it. It must have been overtightened before because it took very little pressure.

Give Vintage a call in the morning 02-9789-1777 after 8,00am

that is the modified stud for the early 1200 engine

No not yet. Mine is around 14.3mm wide across the thread, and Vintage only had 15mm which means I'll have to make the hole bigger.

"bushed" is going to have a look and see if he has the correct one.

But if I can't get the correct size I guess I'll have to re-tap the thread and go with a 15mm.

I'll let you know.

You could install a stud into the stud, if that makes sense to you. Cut off the broken bit flush with the hex then drill & tap to install a 8mm stud. This does work I have had to do one to an early head myself.

Actually that's a pretty good idea, because I don't want to take the engine out. If I try to tap a larger hole in the head there's sure to be metal filings that I'll miss (and I don't want that), so tapping an 8mm stud into the hex might be the next best solution.

But I'll just wait to see if someone on this list can come up with the correct sized part.

u could cut off the broken bit and drill n tap out side the engine no mess that way

Update:

Bushed couldn't find a stud the correct size so I'm still on the lookout. It appears my stud has been replaced in the past and that explains the size.

So I'll try again. Does anyone have one around 14.3mm across the thread. If not I'm going to give mackaymanx's idea a go, and if that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to take the engine out and tap the hole bigger to suit a 15mm stud.

FYI.

Some of those older earlier replacement studs weren't made metric. Many of them were 9/16"-18TPI UNF hence the thoughts that they were 14.3mm diameter. Worth measuring the pitch of the thread for correct identification as the 18TPI is close to 1.25mm.

With all that, have you got a replacement? Also, could you update profile as someone may be closer to you for help! By the way, engine doesn't have to come out to do this task if re-tapping is needed.

If you can send me the EXACT thread identification (check the pitch of the thread) and the lenghts of each section I could post you a replacement in a couple of days. In another life I made plenty of them to replace the long studs which came loose quite regularly so it isn't a problem!

Sent PM with contact details. Just a thought! Check pitch with an 8mm bolt from crankcase etc as the pitch on these is 1.25mm. If it doesn't fit, see if you can find a 5/16" Whitworth bolt (18TPI) and check against rocker stud for pitch on the 14.3? mm dia. This will tell us if it is metric or the UNF thread.

Most likely 9/16" UNF which was a common conversion for the pe '65(?) 40 horse.

Drill and tap the old stud so you can use stock late rocker studs.
Never worry again.

Got your em Paul. How say we make it as above suggests, ie tapped 8mm for a replaceable stud or capscrew. Just give me the X and Y measurements as well as the size accross the flats of the hex. I've got a few metres of 16mm hex stainless if that size is ok but not important as we can make it any size needed.
