New crank cases - no engine number

does anyone know what the story is with the new replacement crank cases that have no engine number?
ie. what to tell the inspectors when they see the engine number is blank

my new engine is built with a new universal AS41 case so it has no number at all and i know all these new factory mexican engines that alot of ppl are running now come the same way
i gave up changing my engine number with the RTA cos im forever swapping engines
i have heard somewhere u stamp ur old engine number on but if ur old engine is still kept as a spare or in another car like mine then waht?

I've been in this situation and always tried to use a number from a 'dead' engine that will never see the road again. However, I have also been required to get a 'N***P' (NSW Police) number on some blocks/cars, too...

Joel/Glenn,

What I have been told is RTA dont actually control it any more, its all registered when a Blue slip guy does it for you with his paper work and then down to the RTA to pay them.

Cheers, Andrew

Just stamp any number on it and then go and change the papers.

stamp VW1974L as your number. As if some twit at RTA is going to notice or care.

A mate who does pink slips had a problem with his brake tester. There was a short in the pedal switch and it came out at some ridiculously high number. He didnt realise it until he'd sent customer on her way to the RTA. When he rang the RTA to tell them, they said they dont care. So long as there is a docket attached its OK with them.

easier to just leave it blank and plead ignorance
altho i do have a 40hp with a rod thro the top of the case under the house somewhere
wonder if ppl would beleive me that my 1776 is really a 1200

i know what u mean bout the brake testers
i used to carry about 500kg of tools in my misterbitchy express van when i worked as a fridgy
to pass the brake test each pinkslip i would have to unload it all
one year they said dont worry we'll just do a test in another car and attatch the slip 4 u

I think the major implications are if you have a prang. Bigger implications if someone is injured - eg, they may argue that the vehicle is not registered and that would mean a visit to the Big House.

I was given a tour of a forensic science centre in a certain Oz state - and they had a bucketload of cars there to X-Ray the engines and chassis numbers at the time. They were doing about 300 a year. Not huge numbers - but I sure wouldn't want to be one of the ones pinged.

Oh yeah - just another excuse for insurance companies to not pay you too.

Looks like you have sorted which hole the RTA can shove it. I love those brake tests, the guy who did mine throws the box forward then back obviously triggering the inertia thing inside....................my brakes passed

Bit scary though, hope he doesnt do it with all cars, could imagine some cars brakes.
