NOS!!!!
Is it just me or has anybody else noticed ads for parts that read something like "NOS "thing" only been on my car for six months/just
restored/not been used much". NOS means never used/fitted surely?

I would assume NOS means more than un-fitted or used. It should also be a factory original part manufacured in the correct era.
As an example you can buy a brand new fuel pump for a type 4 motor build by the original manufaturer! I would not consider this NOS!!!

There have been huge debats about this on thesamba, and I agree, NOS is never used, Never Bolted on then taken off, And should have the Packaging!
And there is also no such thing as NOS reprodutions, As SOME people advertise there stuff!

i think people may be referring to the part being purchased originally as NOS (as opposed to reconditioned / reproduction), but has now been used 6
months etc... i don't think they are referring to the current condition as being NOS

Nectars got it exactly right. Used, even if only for 10 minutes is still used. Imagine walking into a bar for a beer and being served one that
somebody had a bit of, decided they didn't want it anymore and sold on. The other thing that gets me is people selling supposed NOS stuff but
they want to keep the boxes. Makes me very suspicious that they are simply cleaning up good s/hand stuff advertising it next to an original box and
ripping off a lot of people.

How a bout if a vehicle has been rebuilt using NOS parts, surley that would be the ultimate,
There it would make a differance
Unity-28,
Yes it might be used now , but a least it wasnt repro, or pattern parts.

A car with NOS parts would be a "better" car in that regard, but you can not call the car a NOS car can you? If the part is used, even for
1 minute, its no longer NOS. It might be In very good Nic, But at the end of the day, Its not NOS. It was, but not any more! Me personally Would
rather have Good repros, Than Parts that need lots of repairs, Even if they were NOS at one time or another! Everyone Wants NOS, but at the end of
the day, IT not that easy to get, so when someone claims they have NOS, and then tell you they have used it for X amount of time, Well its wasted your
time!

What about people selling items on ebay as NOS (new old style).
As an example, have a look at the number of visors sold as NOS, but read the desciption!

NOS the most overused and abused 3 letters in the classic car alphabet if you ask me.
Bit of a worry with poeple keeping the old parts boxes. Didnt even consider that one. Lots of times you just accept its NOS because its still in the
box. Dodgy Dodgy.
Good repros are fine for me. And there are some good ones around. The only down side with some repro stuff is the quality of the chrome.

Not much NOS left.
Maybe I'm wrong but, basically new old stock comes from an old vw repair shop or dealership or someone who bought two of everything back in the
50's and 60's 70's,so you would think by now most of this stuff has been found and used.
Where do you draw the line......is stuff from the 80's and 90's nos?
Is a part from 2001 not used new old stock?when is the cutoff.

I would still be wary of NOS parts. Imagine a 40 year old NOS part like a fuel pump still in it's box. Great, it was sitting somewhere for 40
years. Who knows how good the diaphagm is?
But then there are parts like trims, mouldings etc. that would be in new condition, and you would like them to look that way.

NOS
To me NOS means nitros oxide like in the Fast and the Furious.
Now if it was only legal here in Qld. |

You would never buy N.O.S window rubbers would you but for instance I purchased alot of real N.O.S stuff nice and shiny never used with very kool
dusty V.W boxes now thats N.O.S,I am finding it hard to justify using this N.O.S stuff because 1;They are rare and the chances off ever finding em
again is slim2;Very good quality repros have been made:3;The minute I put it on my ride its no longer N.O.S;Its second hand old stock...Necter is
purely right...Oh yeh Necter im going first thing on monday to buy a Bosche blue coil....Thanks for the source...DEEEEE:bounce
