Best way to sell a heap of 2nd hand VW Parts

As most of you would now be aware I have left Custom Offroad and as a result have a yard full of volkswagens I can't really be bothered dealing with.

So I thought I would see what people think is the best way to turn them into some $$$ to fund my Iguana Buggy.

Option 1 - Strip them down and sell then off bit by bit on ebay.

Option 2 - Have a weekend long garage sale and just put them all in the front yard, like a big ass pick and pay. You come you look, you offer and if accepted you pull it off and take it away.

Option 3 - Ring the local car collector and get the $1000 he has offered me for the lot.

Option 4 - put out an offer to people who want a project car and if they seem like genuine volkswagen nuts do them a very good deal.

Option 5 - Put out an offer to people who want stuff, they can come and spend a day helping me pull off all the bits I want to keep for the Iguana Buggies and Trailers and they can take away what is left over.

All options have good and bad points. I know I will make more $$$ if I go the ebay option, but those who know me, know I really can't be bothered.

So what do you all think would be the best option ??

I think a combination of option 2 then option 3 would work.

That is organise one single weekend where people have to commit to come and look/buy/remove what they want.....then whatever is left (after you take your stuff of course), send it off car collector/sims etc.

We've all been there before where we've tried to tee up a time with someone only for them to pull out on the day they are supposed to turn up - you can imagine how hard it would be to co-ordinate a heap of people wanting to view stuff on different days/times etc - would be a nightmare for you. If people are serious I guess they have to make themselves available on the nominated weekend, and if not, then they miss out.

Just my 2c.
Al

some sort of mixture of 2 & 5, you have to get all the bits you will need because they will cost far more than $1000 when you need them, then single everything or nothing sale or Sims - not easy as Al says

Please, I need drivers side window regulator (winder mechanism) for my '54 http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/Kombikim/avatar1.jpg

Option 1 is the only real way I can see it would possibly benefit me in anyway & we all know that is the most important consideration here.:yes::yes::yes:

Brad, I've been there and my advice is to keep it all. You will regret parting with it. I know I do.

Thanks for the input..

Craig if option 6 is you giving me heaps of $$$ and taking it all away then I am keen on that, if not option 6 doen't look to good for me.

VW54 - I am well aware of that, and even when you sit down and work out what you may get for stuff if you did get a good price it isn't really worth the hassle of pulling stuff off.

MR930 I hear what you are saying but it has gotten to the stage where I am just sick of looking at it sitting there.

At this stage Option 2 followed on the Monday by option 3 is looking like where I am heading. If it goes that way then I will probably pick a weekend after Dubs so I can hand some flyers out to drum up people.

I'll grab a buggy body and some 4 stud rims!

give vw nuts a chance to get some parts then car collector..most will go to scrap though.
another option would be to get someone else to sell em on e-bay and keep a percent of the profits...

btw, Brad, do you have still have an iguana web site and any plans for a long-wheel base one??

Pick a weekend for a 2 day pick a parts sale. Everyone came come and buy then what ever is left offer to a shop(if it is good) for a cheap cheap price. I hate seeing good bits sent to sims for scrap as it is getting harder to find some items that 15 years ago were plentiful.

Option 2 and 3.
if they really do want it they'll come get it. if not, sims will.
either way you get paid and it goes.
that's what i'm doing with the old type 3's, either they sell by end of january or Sims gets it.

Hey Brad,
I would take and keep anything you think is worth more then $200 and have a $10 enter and take what you can carry day/weekend.
Also something to look at is scrap prices.... I can hear you all screem... I can $150 a tonne here in WA for car bodies from LSM . you can get $80 $90 as a walkin off the street.

If you have Kombi rear stubs axles and wheel flanges I'll buy them all. Same as your kombi boxes if you have any.... would look at type one beams as well.... But only interested in a bulk lot...

BTW good luck with your endeavours

You could get some helpers to pull them apart and stack them then list them on ebay. Maybe over a couple of really wet days when they are not pushing dirt.

This is not a for sale thread and I haven't decided what I am going to do with it all.

I have what you may call maintenance stock, nothing rare, no splits, notches, ovals etc just bay window kombis and beetles.

Once I work out what I am doing i will put a 4 sale add up

Anything but 3, I agree that a lot of parts are becoming rarer and if someone has a farm or something similar at least they can sit there for a while and they can salvage them to others. have a reducing list of available parts maybe.
