New toy that I bought, 1961 Splitty

Well here it is, bought me a new toy. Found it at a local metal collectors place pretty much in the bush, only VW he had.

Bought it for spares and panel work for my 1956.

Unfortuantly shes not a restorer, too much rust for ones liking. I guess if you really had the patience it may, just maybe be able to be restored, but from what i see i doubt it.

Its a 1961, all complete (took out the headlights before I took it home), and was driving when he put it where it was in 1985. Sitting there since.

All doors open and close, bit of floor rust, sils gone, however not in as bad condition as you'd think after all these years out in the weather. Mostly the roof is the worst part.

Later on I might be selling some parts but I dont think so as yet.

So heres some pics

Have you tried starting it yet ?
there are lots of tales of them starting straight away after sitting forever somewhere

Only brought it home last night!

I did start my 1956 after sitting for 27 years and still runs alright, didnt take it for a drive because the reverse gear is gone!

It starts! Not bad for about 23 years of sittin around. Replaced a bit of fuel line, cleaned off the points, bit of aerostart and she cranked over, few turns and she was on!

Good Stuff
