Lowlight gearbox / motor combo question
Looking at new motor options for my 69 Bay Kombi resto
Thinking about a new 1600 mexican motor with twin carbies and have access to a standard 1800 Kombi gearbox - would this gearbox be suitable (in terms
of ratios etc) for this motor, or would it be asking too much of the engine?
Would I be best off running my old 1600 box instead?
The van is a microbus so no heavy camper interior, but may be required to carry a few passengers on occasion.
Was also thinking 1776 but might not have the dollars to stretch that far

the 1800 box went back t the .889 fourth gear from the 1600's .821, when they went for a taller diff,
so the overal ratio in 4th gear is only marginally taller.
1 to 3 will be taller , but that may not suit your driving style.
My suggestion would be to try the standard ratio and make a descision from that point.
When you decide what you want you MAY be able to use the 1600's .821 fourth gear in the 1800 box.
this will make the final drive close to what a 2lt box has.(less rpm)
