Calling EJ71Van
Come on Brendan, need my fix.
Does anyone know what's happened to Brendan aka EJ71Van with "Surf n Swoosh"?
He's gone from the member list.
Apologies if I've posted to the wrong bit but I used to read it here.

I'm not a figment of your imagination, just slow at doing my conversion! Two and a half years, although I'm doing a resto also, but that's no
excuse.
Vanrex is coming along nicely. Motor, ECU and sensors completely wired. Got to mount the new blade fuse blocks at the front, plug the dash in, fill it
with water and turn it over. It is all painted and upholstered with just door windows and locks to fit and adjust. Oh and bleed the brakes...I must
remember to bleed the brakes.

Well after a couple of false starts with some water leaks and a pesky pin hole causing me to replace the fuel tank everything tested out ok with no
shorts I plugged everything together. No bangs or even smoke (smoke makes the ECU run and if you let it out the ECU is no good anymore) .
My dilemma
fuel pumps get up pressure.. tick
Turn it over with ignition on.. it fires on one revolution but then nothing after that even if I continue to crank it irrespective of the throttle
position.
Let's go to diagnostics. Join the plugs together and turn on the ignition and there is no error codes but the radiator fans and the fuel pumps cycle
on then off for about 4 seconds at a time.
Has anyone experienced this before??
BTW I can smell fuel from the exhaust.

Immob problem if it runs for approx 1 second.
If it's really 1 revolution I'd suggest checking the cam and crank sensors are working and connections to the ECU are good

that's normal as you're running self test. Listen carefully and you'll also hear the pruge control solenoid clicking
Has anyone experienced this before??
yup

My engine is a 96 JDM GC8. I didn't think it had an immobilizer. If it does what do I need to do to trick it.
I read an old post on here of someone having the same problem (mattie I think). A suggestion was made that the cranking speed may not be past the
120rpm required for the crank angle sensor to trigger. There was no outcome on the thread however.

If it had an Immob you need the ign barrel coil and chip from the key from my understanding.
My chip is taped to a rather large screwdriver and then inserted into the coil. Having it taped onto the coil didn't work. That's why I got the 1
sec of running.
Sounds like you have fuel. Do you have sparks?
Did you do an error code check as opposed to a self test?

IT RUNS!! 2 Years 6 Months and 26 Days.
Oil is pouring out of both rocker cover gaskets and a small water leak but I don't care.
The problems were as follows.
I did not have the starting wire connected to the ECU. (This was the cause of the initial fire then nothing but cranking)
2 Injectors were seized up so even when it started it only ran on two cylinders. I removed all the injectors and made a cable with a little limit
switch to pulse 12 volts to them until they triggered. Gave them a light tap on the outside body also to give them a little help.
It ran rough at first then sorted itself out and idled smoothly and throttled up fine. Still need to read memory for errors but that can wait until
tomorrow.
I'm now sitting here drinking a celebratory ale feeling pretty pleased with myself.
Thanks for all your tips. I guess I need to post some pictures now. Wvtyp2, it looks nothing like this anymore. Not a show van but reasonably straight
(I built it as a wagon to get to the beach in).
Regards
Brendan
