Humpty's finally got off his arse and begun a real drag car project!
Thought you guys might get a kick out of this..... Some of you guys know I have been wanting to do this for years and I've been collecting bits for
the 'BIG-ONE' for years.... But to give myself some turbo dub experience I allowed myself to be talked into doing this to the POS60.....
This project had been inspired by the TAT and others....

I will check on that dizzy for you , I think I might have a couple in stock . Do you have one with a buggered vacuum diaphram , or dont you have one
at all . I do have a new replacement diaphram in stock also . Wayne .

I'm looking at using that dizzy as a 'boost/retard' deal on the POS60. By leaving the inside (retard) port open to atmosphere and connecting the
outside port (the black one in the pic) to a manifold source, I should be able to use this to retard spark under boost.... At least thats how I think
it will work.... But I have bee through my stash and I don't think I have one.... I still need to dig through my brothers stuff.... But I do need to
get one this week, otherwise I'll be using the 09 I have....

Good stuff Humpty.
Before I was running the sigma dissy I used the 009 and modified it so it would only see a max of 24deg. I have the sigma dissy set the same. Although
the thought seems to be the more boost you run you can even bring it back to 21deg. I haven't tried it yet but will soon.

Got a question for those in the know.... Should I fit a muffler?
The car in question is one of those "bitsa", no budget specials, so loved by the anti establishment these days.... It owes sweet FA, runs a IHI RB5
VF11 turbo (still need to source a carbon seal for it... Know where I can get one??) and a home brew draw-through zorst with a side draft weber....
The system is all stainless (cause thats what I had) and the engine is POS 1835 that is basically stock... Will fit HD single springs and solid shafts
very soon....
My dump pipe is made from 3" mandrels and pops down behind #4, near the oil pump cover.... So.... As the title suggests, my question is "Should I
fit a muffler on this baby, or will the turbo be 'enough muff' for my streeter?

Driving it on the street??? Maybe just put a super trap on the end of the pipe. that way it's easy to remove for racing.

The turbo will quieten it down substantially. As dave said I have no muffler and it's relatively quiet until you put your boot into it.
The beauty of a volksy is no one suspects anything. I've had cops follow but to them it's a standard old slow volksy....

Cheers Dave.... I ended up using 60º taper wheel bolts with ball seat adapter washers.... And it looks like they have 'bedded in' a bit now
too...
Also took out the 4" beam and fitted my 2" number in.. The adjusters are set at the stock height with drop spindles and she rides so nice!.... But I
might drop it down a little all-round once she's back on the road....
And white seems to work better for you.... Or is that cream?

Cheers guys.... Thanks so much for the comments.... The ol'POS is slowly coming together, but as I go, I find I still need a few things.... Does
anyone out there have a twin inlet banjo fitting for a DCOE Weber?... I have a twin outlet fuel pressure reg and thought it safer to use both lines
out instead of blocking one off.... And two lines into the carb will help more fuel get there anyway...

Looks like a load of fun. As said the turbo will chop down the noise but I am going to run a muffler on mine. Mine is pretty free flowing and tucks up
under the passenger guard. It's a magnaflow. I think if you were pulled over and could talk them around the turbo you would still get picked on for
no muffler.

I need to track down a good used muffler/resonator.... Off to the performance shops I go.... Alway on the scrounge...

Latest news fellas.... Got bugger all done on the car over the weekend.... Went lawn bowling on Friday night... Started at 6.30pm and finished at
1.00am!!! Fark it was fun!.... But after many beers and little food I was trashed the next day.... I didn't even make it home.... I'm way too old
for this shite....
Anyway.... Did some on the zorst tonight... Pretty much done actually.... Just need to make up the fillets for the dump pipe flange, make the muffler
support bracket and then TIG the whole thing up....
And here's the result of tonights efforts....
PS:.... That muffler I got from NZ it bloody awesome!

Nice work humpty....be prepared for it to develop some heat though.
I had to put some heat proof tape in areas and I still ended up with some paint bubbling on the rear apron and deck lid.

Humpty it looks really neat. Did you look at going through the side wall in the bay out to under the guard? That way all the heat is kept out of the
engine bay an it would have less big bends.

Yeah.... I did think of that for a bit..... And now you have me thinking about it again!... Damn it!... With a muffler like that, I could run the zorst straight down the inner guard and out the LH rear.... The I guess
I could mount the (future) oil filter under the apron..... or somink...

I run a oberg (will post pics soon) and mounted it directly to the deep sump under the oil pump. loads of room and when you drop the oil it is all in
one area.

Although I have some under bonnet heat it runs quite cool. I also have stand offs which are a must. My late model deck lid also has the vents which
help.
My new car will have a scoops in the side windows funneling air into the engine compartment and fan housing.

humpty with the DVDA dizzy im playing round with them on my blown bug, got one on its way shortly
connecting to the manifold like u said will retard on boost like u want but the prob is that on closed throttle the manifold vacuum will give u full
advance espcially rolling down hill, it will p probably backfire and fart like crazy due to no fuel and full advance
that sort of setup is more for blow thro where the vac adv is connected to a port on the carb above the throttle plate so its only seeing boost when
the throttle is open and carbs under boost pressure
to make it work on draw thro u would need a 1way valve so its only seeing boost and not vacuum
theyre pretty hard to find
the only bugs they were ever fitted to were 71 Sbugs and the dealers were instructed to remove them
a few kombis had them but replacement cans are hard to comeby so most ppl remove them
GL with the project tho
trust me forced induction is addictive

Your are right Joel.... The advance control is an issue.... Thats one of the reasons that only the retard side of the diaphragm is used, and as you
say the vacuum can be controlled with a one way valve.... They are available.... Low-Budget Racing sell them and I think Rancho Performance does
too.... But I have found a couple of low pressure valves to try in my set-up... Some cars have one-way valves on the carbon canister and there are
also valves used in windscreen washer set-ups.... I have a few others too... Will try them all out....
As for the POS60 progress.... I tacked the pipe together today and trial fitting it tonight (After picking up a GTB Subi front cut for Seagull) and
the pipes are a good fit.... With a little tweaking it'll be perfect... I'll have a go at it tomorrow and sort the final bits.... This weekend the
zorst should be done... Last few things to do are the fuel system, the carb brace and the final bolt up....
Once she's running, I'll see what I can do about the air cleaner issue....

I think fish tanks use one way valves. You could always hock up a solenoid to the dizzy base plate or even a vacuum dash pot like some Jap cars
used.
