And here we have the re-start of the drag car build....

Been working on the floor pan the past couple of days... The torsion housing is now one with the pan. Has been braced on the underside, and is currently getting a few holes welded up.... Flipped it back up the right way today, and began the fit up of the suspension, transaxle and front suspension.

Pics from yesterday....

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zps629ddad0.jpg

And this was in the shed the other night too....

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zpsdcb3d9ea.jpg

More done today.... Will show that stuff tomorrow.

The rear rims still haven't arrived..... Crap!

So on with the pan.... I had some crusty parts to repair where the OG jack points were fitted.... Ugly as buggery, I cut the area out on both sides and patched them up.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zps1ee119aa.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zps72610361.jpg

Also fitted the lower bracing to the framehorns....

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zpsf0d939a2.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zps488a7b1f.jpg

Then flipped it back over the right way and began the trail fit up of the bits...

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zpsdd487df9.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zpsb1064189.jpg

And I also fitted a 4" narrowed beam I built a few years back... This complete beam was sitting under the bench, so I put it to work temporarily...

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zps1b75aa0b.jpg

An Aluminum beam is going in as soon as I have built it up.

That's where I'm at today.... I haven't got any brakes for the rear yet, but might have something in the pile down the farm... Hopefully Ill finally have the pan rolling tomorrow.

Got a name for the car too..... Vochito!

Good work mate , Moving gear lever back to , cool ( wish I did mine ) , while your going that far , think about hard lines now for fuel and brakes . I run hoses with bulk head fittings each end ( main fuel , fuel return , nitrous ) . I ran brake line on pan edge for rear brakes , I just didn't want it inside cab , kills paint .
What chop style are you going to do ? Humpty

Cheers Pete.... I've opened up both ends of the pan to make it easier to run hard lines through the tunnel, with bulkhead fittings at both ends... Might run the brake and clutch hydraulic lines through there too...

You can see the rear opening here.... The one in the front is the stock one that I have just opened up further...

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zps488a7b1f.jpg

Will run P clips in captive nuts at both ends of the tunnel and in the middle under the handbrake hole. And I'll make a nice little cover plate for the handbrake hole while I'm at it.
The chop is a body I built ages ago for a VRod project.... Obviously it never was completed, so finding a new use for it is a good thing...

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/_MG_0818.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/_MG_0805.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/_MG_0782.jpg

It's basically a slant chop, with a totally stock roof profile... Can't remember the numbers, but I think it was about 75mm at the front and around 60mm at the rear... Stock rear window aperture which will be nice... All pillars have been pie cut to line up.... Doing it this way has maintained the roof profile, which few chops manage to do IMO.... Still need to do plenty to finish it off, but I like the profile.

Yup.... I'm off to the set on Monday to help out with the stunt scenes for the clone Bugs.... They smashed an Audi today apparently too.... The two clone Bugs are off to meet their maker... Ones going over a cliff and the other goes in the drink... All tied together to create the seamless demise of the Ruby POS!

So the last couple of days have been pretty busy in the shed....

Found some drums for the rearend.... Borrowed one off a mate, the other one came from down the farm.... So outside we go for a little look.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zps353b9c6d.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zpse77e1530.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zpsbb4b45e3.jpg

Then I made a start on the body... This was the first to go.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zpsee7aff66.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zpsa3075794.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zpsd44b2c37.jpg

Then I put the body on the pan to figure what needed trimming and where...

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zps11989e4b.jpg

The next bit....

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zps3b648cd9.jpg

Then back on the pan she goes... Much better.

Rear tyre clearance.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zpsa0e4b63d.jpg

Next job is the pillars...

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zpsa209aff6.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/Humptydub/Vochito/null_zps78733a0c.jpg

The front windscreen pie cuts are done...

The ps C pillar is nearly done and the body is already much tighter...

Jeeze.... Give me a chance Chris.... I've only just started the drag car project.... Since Feb this year, I've had one whole week's worth of time on it!

But yes Chris... It must be done.... Only really two big expenses ahead of me... The cage and the engine machining.... The rest is pretty much all just work.... I plan to have a cage in the car by the end of the year.... Maybe the engine next holidays.

Heres hoping.

The carpets for a little comfort under foot, is all, and im not in the habit of lighting fires indoors anyway.... Like you said, it doesnt get cold enough!

Young mister Butler in Brizzy is doing the machining for me... Might be a little more exy than finding someone local, but he knows the product inside and out, plus he has actually done what is required before... Know one here knows much about anything unless its a V8!

I pinched the pillars, made pie cuts up the length of the B pillars till everything aligned, different kind of roof chop to mine tho,
didn't mean to high jack, thought it might be of interest,

No problem jumping in there Barry.... There are so many ways to skin a cat.... The more advise we can offer the better.

In the case of my chop... What I'll be doing is chopping the entire top section of the B pillar out (much like I did with the lower radius of the C pillar) and move it back to align with the lower section.... It will also have to be tilted back slightly to align vertically too.... At least in theory... We shall see when I get to that bit....

Turbo for sure Brad.... I'm not sure if my current turbo gear will be of much use with the new engine... Carb will be a tad small, as will the turbo... I've recently picked up a GT30 turbo, and I now need to decide whether I go for a larger Holley carb, or just chuck on the EFI gear I have.... The plan is run all the wiring on the floor on one panel... Nothing but basic wiring to the dash.... Shift light, oil, fuel and ignition lights only... Anyone got a lead on a good wiring/harness design application for Mac's?

Fuel system is all under control too... Just going to move the one that worked on the POS straight across.... But I need to get a bigger tank... As soon as the body is solid, this lot will go in along with the brake system.... Speaking of which.... Gonna run the spindle mounts with the Ali beam, so need to figure out some suitable rear discs.

All good, and having a blast.... Keep the inspiration coming fellas.... Those Warwick pics are just what I needed.

Just go carbi .
Msd and a carby can't go wrong with that.
Unless you have some mad Vw guru tuner over there.
Most people can't get there head around a Vw with efi.
If you do go the efi route .ask people how to do the fuel system ,
Don't just throw it together. There is heaps of ways to do it.
But there is only 1 right way.lol.

How much power r u chasing.
That for me will tell u what size turbo u need.

300-350 at the wheels is the magic number.... Similar to Chris Bolton's car..... The car and trans is (or soon will be) more than up for the task.... The driver is a different story.... :dork:
With the heads (wedgies), cam (web 86b), rods (SCAT 5.7) and crank (flanged 84mm Chevy journal deal that's sitting at Rodney's place) I've got, these sorts of figures should be pretty easy to achieve if you believe the word on the street....

The old turbo off the 1776 is a GT2560 (not the ceramic wheel version) that was a little big for the engine, as was the header I made and the 500dbl carb I was running... In theory they should be good for that sort of power, but I might be asking too much of the carb and the turbo on an engine of this size.... The header will be rejigged for the new combo.... The intake is still to be decided.... All I know is I want it all under the lid and over the transaxle... No OEM cooling will be used.

I'm in the ball park Brad?

Your car looks really good mate, if thats the Nissan turbo same as GT28R .64 a/r, you will have it maxed out @ 300hp,
its designed as quick spool turbo I would think for drag you need bigger turbo with progressive,
initially slower spool rate that can breathe and hold pressure at higher RPM rather than breaking tyres loose at every gear change.
