FS: Early 1955 Oval Beetle - deposit taken

Ok, so the time has come where it is now an issue to store these cars again, so I'm going to have to sell one of them. Problem is, I can't decide which I'd like to sell and which I'd like to keep, so its up to you guys, the buyers, as which ever one sells first will be the one I get rid of! I really don't get to drive both of them, so its money wasted on rego and insurance, plus my storage issues having 3 cars and 1 garage, and I'm looking into a European holiday so the money would be nice for that aswell.

1.

Sellers name - Michael
Suburb/postcode - Toowong, Brisbane
Item description - 1955 VW Beetle
Condition - Ratty, but good and solid
Item cost - $8500 with everything listed below(except the plates), other prices can be worked out by removing certain items.

1955 VW Beetle rat
This is a mostly original april 1955 oval with all early 55 parts like ribbed doors, heart tail lights, larger neck fuel tank, straight gear stick, correct hood and w decklid etc. It is in very good shape, no real large body marks or dents, some small rust bubbles are poking through in the roof but not really anywhere else, and the hood has a decent split where it takes all the strain from being propped up, but it could be fixed. The pan is pretty much rust free as are the channels and pillar bases, but the battery tray has been replaced at some point.

The car was rewired when I got it and everything works electrically, except the semaphores which are broken anyeway, as it has the indicators. The motor is a 36hp, but not the original one, its had a few minor things fixed and it runs 100% fine, hasn't missed a beat in 12 months and only leaks a small amount of oil. Its still 6 volt and has a new battery, and generator belt. The crash box is a little noisey, but still shifts fine and has a new clutch in it as of September last year, again this also leaks oil. It has 99k miles on the clock, which could be genuine, going by the interior condition this could be its first trip round the odometer.

The interior is pretty mint original as far as the seats and trims go, the door trims are a little warped and wobbly and the carpet and roof liner are ratty, but again, all there.

It has quite a few accessories which can either be sold with the car or you can chose to not have some and the price can be reduced accordingly, all of these plus the mods are worth about $4-5k+ easily so its a good buy with everything. There is a Flat 4 roof rack, mesh visor, rear venetian, flying VW(this will stay on the car), yellow fog light, rear STOP light, bambus parcel tray(staying) and a few badges etc. The RAT:055 plates can be sold with the car to a QLD buyer, but at an extra cost to the price of the vehicle if you desire, but I would like to keep them as I like to keep all my plates.

2 sets of wheels, the hard to find Black BRMs currently fitted with 145 Bridgestone Smartcar tyres up front and 165 nangkangs out back with about 90% tread chroem lug bolts and lock bolts and the centre caps are available, and the standard smoothie steel wheels painted matt black , trims rings and some decent but ratty hubcaps with 135/165 nangkangs, fronts are near new, rears have a small amount left, and again, could be sold with either set or both price depending.

The car has a Custom Vee Dub adjustable 2in narrowed beam, with pretty much all new steering and suspension components up front, new shocks and CB dropped spindles, with adjustable spring plates in the rear and new shocks once again. Its sits very low, but could be raised back up very easily by the adjusters front and rear. Receipts for all work carried out by CVD.

Thats about all I can think of for now, this car will be at Dubs by the Pub next weekend, so you guys can have a look there. Any questions just ask here or PM or call 0402 842 548. It has rego until April 08 for a QLD buyer, but it won't come with an RWC, you'll have to organise your own. I also have a Birth certificate which you can have a copy of.

I'm also happy to send the car interstate at the buyers expense if anyone is interested.

2. - 1959 VW Beetle listed below is SOLD!

Sellers name - Michael
Suburb/postcode - Toowong, Brisbane
Item description - 1959 VW Beetle
Condition - Excellent
Item cost - $9000 with 356 steelies, less without if you provide your own wheels.

1959 VW Beetle
3rd owner car brought up from Victoria with all original parts and is a matching numbers car. It has mostly orginal paint in good nick and the body in pretty damn good condition for its age with a few minor 10c piece sized dents, and absolutely no rust, not in the body or the pan/channels. It could do with a good, professional polish to bring it back up to a very nice shine. All chrome work is in great condition and nothing really needs doing externally. It has rare flash trim fitted with a neat red pinstripe to accentuate it and it looks great. all lights are immaculate in conditon with the original Bosch scripted front glass still fitted.

The motor is the original engine and crash box, both been rebuilt by the previous owner, and everything runs extremely well and has just had an oil change. It has 82k original miles on the clock. Everything electrical works fine, including the semaphores, however only in the last few weeks the wipers are playing up and would need some attention.

The interior is superb with the original door trims, roof liner and rear seat being in immaculate condition and the front seats have been retrimmed in red leather to match. The carpet is new oatmeal square weave with red leather trimming and has rubber floor mats. It has a period 6v radio which looks excellent, but has never been wired up.

The car is fitted with an oval era solid visor, rear venetian, flash trim as mentioned before, yellow fog light, Safety star, and some neat little badges etc, hotrod style pinstriping on the decklid and the hood around the emblem. It has stainless eyelids which are not currently fitted but are included in the sale. It also has stainless Koch 3 bar horn grilles(and originals) and stainless Breezies. The FKD15 plates are not available for sale with the car. It has genuine Porsche 356 steel wheels, painted red, with smoothie chrome hubcaps and also the OG ones, chrome trim rings and has 135's in decent condition up front and 165 with quite alot of tread ouit the back and Atlas whitewall inserts. Will sell minus these wheels for less, if you provide your own set to take the car away on. It also has the original sales reciept from 31/12/1959 and brochures in its original sales booklet pouch.

It has a very solid, well made front end setup with an adjustable beam, and it rides very nicely for a lowered beetle, out the back it is down about 1 spline and again, rides very smoothly. Rego until May 08 and a RWC will be provided upon sale.

Again, thats about all I can think of for now, if you have any questions comment here, PM, or call 0402 842 548. I'm also happy to send this car interstate at the buyer expense once again.

Jase, I got rid of the ute almost a year ago, felt I had to before the VE came out when VZ prices would plummet, goit good money for it so that was good......onto a GTR now! And yeah I will be keeping one, but I can't decide, so its up to the buyers!

3toes - define "without any accessories", which bits are you not interested in?

Basically anything that doesn't belong on the car. Roofrack, visor, spots, venetian, badges, flying V and bambus shelf.

Cheers
Chris

Ok, well the flying VW will stay on the car, simply because it'll leave holes if I take it off and I siliconed it on as an extra precaution from theft!(but I could take it off if you really didn't want it) I could take the shelf out, badges off and the spotlight off but it wouldn't really reduce the value a great deal as together they are only worth about $150, but I'd be more than happy to sell minus the rack, visor and venetian. Are you wanting both sets of wheels?

I could possibly even arrange to have the beams swapped from car to car, I'd prefer not to, but its another option if you want the car fairly stock and not narrowed and slammed!?!?

As a seller its harder to get an RWC for a car like this(mainly because of the lowering), but once you own the car most places will probably do one because they know you are the new owner and won't come back to them when something goes wrong, but being a seller they won't do it based on the fact that they have no idea who the buyer is and if they'll come back to have a go at them for doing the RWC in the first place....if that makes sense?

Pete at Custom Off Road/Custom Vee Dub would probably look after you if you bought it, you'd probably have to wind the adjusters up front an rear just for his piece of mind, maybe fix the oil leak in the box and patch up the split in the side of the hood. Being that it will only be a rego transfer(as you are in QLD) and there won't be a need for an inspection as if you were going for new rego, no one needs to see the car and it'd be quite an easy process!

Hi Michael ....

very nice cars ... i would really like to buy them both!

is the pastel green of the 55 the original color ... could you please elaborate what is meant when you say the doors are warped ... and what do you think it would take to get this car up and running (without doing a full resto i mean) ..

Aussietanker - by doors, I mean the door trims, not the actual doors, if you have a look at the photo of the interior you can see what I mean, they are just a little wobbly along the edges!

The green is not the original paint, someone has re-done it at some point, but its based on the original colour, the dash and under the roof liner show the original colour.

The car is up and running perfectly, I could drive it everyday if I wanted/needed to, it realistically doesn't need anything at all!!! And yes, its the original body on the original pan.

just bumping this back up again

prices are negotiable, and seeing as these are probably more a style suited to southerners(especially the '55) I'll kick in towards the transport if someone from interstate wants either one!

Ok, I've decided I might let both of the cars go now, I think I'm happy having had a go with a nice original beetle, and also slammed ratty oval, and I think I'd like to pool the $'s together after my holiday from both of these and buy a nice originally restored early KG or maybe an early square, something abit different to the beetles and just slam it and cruise.

So I'm looking to sell both now for those who might be keen, have had a few interested in the '59, but no sale yet.

As for the '55, I'm happy to strip almost everything off it, and sell it as a registered(til june 08), drivable car, but again, you'll have to sort out your own RWC which most places should pass it if they know you have bought the car to keep and drive. It would make a really good base for your own style of rat, or even an excellent, solid and complete base for a resto of an early oval. The only things that will have to stay is the 2in narrow, dropped spindles and the adjustable rear plates(unless you have alternatives and want to swap them over and we can adjust the price) as above - $6250ono - less $250 if you don't want the rego.

On another note, I must say I'm a little disappointed in the amount of serious interest these 2 cars have generated, plenty of quenstions and lots of interest, but nothing serious yet. Back when I bought them both I was quickly on them and first in a line of many to get them, and I was offered cash higher than what I paid for both straight after I got them.....what happened to those poeple?

Are they priced too high? (I wouldn't have thought so for what they are)

Are people in QLD not ineterested in 2 rare and quite unique looking beetles for up here?

Are southereners worried about transporting them?

It cost me approx $800(from memory) to get the '59 from Melbourne to Brisbane, metro suburbs, so I'd have to assume it would be a few hundred less than that.

Perhaps ring a few companies, like TNT etc and get a few quotes, they do it over the phone with a few quick questions.

Did you get my reply to your question on ebay.....I'm guessing so seeing as you have found the thread here!?!?
