gearbox and clutch query

Gearchanges are just becoming a little stiff and awkward, and would like to rectify before driving again. Could someone please tell me what type of fluid goes into gearbox and the quantity preferred /brand, also, are hydraulic clutches adjustable? Thanks in advance

thanks Greedy....is there any particular brand of lubrication people have had success with? still have not found a workshop manual for less than a hundred bucks. OK bit of a long shot here... I found a manual for T3 only problem is it doesn't get here till next week, and i'm going up to the gold coast tomorrow if anybody has the time to email a couple of pages regarding the clutch assembly and it's workings/repair I would be very grateful.(can you send a slab of beer through the mail?) :) Muchos Gracias! my address is kombinationdetailing@yahoo.com.au

Sorted, Thanks Greedy, knuckles busted, grease and dirt in my eyes but moving in a forward direction, the clutch works better too.

Cheers Bernie, an interesting afternoon discovering the joys of finding clutch master cylinder....under dash, who would have thought? replaced rubber thingy on slave cylinder and discovered there was a control arm loose. if that makes sense, still love that T3 :) note to self, when pushing on rubber boot whilst underneath to keep mouth closed YUCK!

Do a google on T3 parts and you'll bring up some US and European suppliers. They all have mufflers and prices are pretty good. Have you tried the older vee dub parts suppliers here rather than VW direct.

Classic Vee dub etc, they all advertise in VW mag Australia.

I remember having a problem with stiff, awkward gearchange on a T3. I found a rubber boot on the gear linkage, near the gearbox, had perished and the joint dried out. Greasing it up again returned the smooth, light gearchange action. So I reckon it might be an idea to check that the linkages are properly lubricated - just go underneath and follow the rods back from the gear stick.
Hope this helps.
