CAMS? What is needed?
Being a CAMS novice and hoping to compete at the Bug-In this year, what am I required to have as a minimum at scrutineering for an unregistered Type

You will need at Level 2S (speed - L2S). This License will enable you to compete in most club level events including motokhanas, khanacross,
supersprints and hillclimbs. The only thing you really cant compete in is open race track event (i.e a few cars racing on the track together) and
rallies.
Can can pre apply for the license before you go. This just requires you either ringing up your local CAMS office (or members hotline or go on line).
Get the L2S license forms, fill in and send off. You should be able to apply on the day but to avoid time delays etc best apply before hand. Irs that
easy.
Hope that helps..

You will also need to be a current financial member of a CAMS affiliated Car Club which for you Craig shouldn't be a problem if your still a member
of VWDCQ as they are CAMS affiliated
Don't let body work get in the way of real suspension travel

In terms of the car.
Third party extension if road rego'd in qld
Make sure everything looks and IS nice and safe (jsut think road worthy!). Things to consider
- NO OIL LEAKS..... ever!!! (make sure you give the engine a little clean down at the track)
- No play (or minimal play in steering and bushes, wheel bearings etc etc)
- seatbelts in good order and properly attached (eg new 3 point ones, in orignal mounting holes is fine) or if you go a harness there are min
requirements for plates etc for mounting.
- 1kg (actaully still could be 0.9kg) fire ext. Must be stamped within the last 2 years and securley mounted eg just in front of passenger seat or on
tunnel. Chubb make one with twin metal straps on a metal bracket, go to repco, they have them, with a cams approved thing on the box, and pull each
one out and find the latest/newest one you can.
-battery secured, prefer in box if inside cabin
-second bonnet tie down (piece of telstra rop is a min, but steel cable with clip, letaher belt, bonnet pins etc also all work.
- seat securley mounted
- blue triangle (150mm sides) showing batter location
-second spring on throttle
and then its the normal stuff and depends on who is doing the scurit. Some are anal, some as long as its safe, sometimes might focus on wheel
bearings, sometimes might focus on steering play. jsut depends. If you want dave our i could come down and talk you through it if you want. If you
look at daves car he has spent allot of time and money on getting it perfect for cams and road rego. Mine is a little less stringent, the min required
for CAMS, and weill jsut say i hope they don't pull me over for a road worthy!! as there are some mods which are CAMS required but not street
legal.
Basics jsut make sure the car is neat, tidy, well maitained, and you should be fine.
Any questions give Dave or me a call and we will be able to help.
Also i assume you won't need a cage ( street registered vehicles don't) not sure if yours is unreg. best to call the COC or similar to confirm that.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
Go hard or go home!!!!

Okay, not too bad. I was expecting CAMS to be more complicated than that.
No oil leaks! Is there not a special exemption for Volkswagens? And VWs came standard with steering play, just like Valiants.
Bug-In organisers have suggested pre-scrutineering. In Qld, how is this arranged?

Well there is allot more that they may go into, but the statement, make it roadworthy and safe coves nearly everything on the car!! But Just remember
you may be going upawrds of 150km/hr..... so you want the car safe and secure.
Pre scruit means you organise for a local scruitneer to do the car here and check the list off. You may still have to do a final check over, but
won't be detailed when you go south.
I would suggest you get me and or dave down and get one of us to look over the car. In general terms if it will pass ANDRA it will pass cams. but
there are a few specifics. Also may want to check what the requirments are for non rego's cars. do you have to run a cage, and also do you have to
run a battery box and kill switch.
