Chris Fraser back to normal re CAMS

Huntley Hillclimb is probably a peice of history.

Despite having 3 favourable track inspections last year, CAMS and NSW Police have now decided that the track is unsuitable for high speed events, its only suitable for its signposted 50kmh (its actually signposted 60). Apparently the road is in poor condition. Its in a hell of a lot better condition than the access road which is 80kmh zone.

I dont see how its ever going to come up to standard of a high speed road so I am predicting it will never run again.

No Huntley = no income = no WSCC. A 54 yr old tradition is pretty much dead.

Obviously we arent playing by the same rules as Bathurst which has had dozens of deaths over the years. Or is it just that Huntley Hill doesnt make money for anyone other than WSCC.

Thats a real bummer as I really liked running on this hill. I take it they want the road resurfaced? Looks like another road of the hillclimb championship has gone to the gods...

I probably should say that CAMS deny they have had any input. Police say it was done in consultation. Council say it was done after receiving advice from police. Its a big circle.

We dont know what the actual problems are. A meeting was set up for the 8th Feb between us, CAMS and police but the police pulled out at the last minute. I dont know what is going on now, whether a new meeting is to be scheduled or not.

I had heard rumours about wanting 50 metres of armco from the inside of turn one towards the fork. that would have been around $10K. Not cheap but doable if we got the grants/permission to do it. Thats a pretty simple thing to put in a letter though which makes me think there is more. Any other time it has been a "conditional approval provided that...... " There is a possibility that the police one could be reversed, but the way the council letter is written doesnt leave much room for negotiation.

Hi Chris

Its real shame to see that happening. A Current Affair and the like seem to always ask for people to send them stories for them to probe, why don't you contact them. It would be more interesting than watching to see if a Plasma telly is better that an LCD one.

Steve
