How much $ was the wheel narrowing per wheel if you dont mind me asking? & is it road legal to have it done?

Send me a PM if you dont want to get into it here.

Cheers

Bad Luck with the health problems Kev..
having mental health issues here...
which lets Me work for a bit on My beetle every 2nd day...

that engine sounds nice... alternator..twin carbs.
shame about the chrome.. lol

because of health issues Mine took 9 years Kev....
instead of 6 months...

But once they are on the road, and you can just go and drive it whenever you want... is great... lol

it took Me a few months to put My car off the road while I replaced the inlet manifold then muffler was split again...
I cahanged my oil cooler set up... then My Son gave Me a set of GENIE extractors... I just had to find a muffler for it... which I did from mick motors..
I also made up some new spark plug leads and fitted new spark plugs.. suppression leads..
so Hopefully I will be back on the road by the weekend..
freezing weather & My heater works great too...

all the best Kev

It is illegal to narrow any CAST wheel in all states of Australia. I know it can be done but it is not allowed.

cam070,

I fully understand what you are saying and maybe I need to let a few people know as to why I haven't done a great deal lately.

I will try to keep it brief and I hope people understand the same as they did in this other link - DEPRESSION CLICK HERE

I have been a copper for 13 years (not many on here know this) and during this time you see a lot of things but mainly a lot more things that you dont want to see or deal with. You have a real understanding of how bad things can be and what type of world we really live in. It all starts with your training and you are trained to see and look for things that others dont see on a daily basis. My wife says after seeing the way that I am, that she wouldn't want to see life through my eyes. Even typing this I am starting to sweat (some may understand).

In simple terms I am suffering from anxiety and depression and been off work for 7 months and still have problems getting out of bed sometimes in the morning. This is not to say that I cant still get out and have a laugh, but getting motivated to do things is the hard part.

So I hope you and others may understand why not much has been done in the last 7 months. Its not that I dont want it finished (I do), its just hard for me to get started. I think in the other link I posted, might help others understand (not saying that you dont).

My 5 year old has even asked Santa for the car to be finished for Christmas. Unfortunately, this is one thing I can not give her :(

Regards, Kev

EDIT 4.30pm: Just a quick update, this is how I hope it will look. I have photo shopped this car with my wheels and brakes, running board and the little chrome bit for the 1/4 window. Now I need to work towards the real thing.

road registered...

For many years if i went near My Beetle My brain would go berserk ... for no real reason...

so, I know how difficult it can be Kev

I hope You can beat it in time...

Hi Kev

I've had on & of vertigo for a few years, although different to your problem I can relate to it.

When faced with huge car tasks like yours and mine I sometimes find it helps to do fun small things that can be achieved in a short time, then after a while these small things add up and the goal will be getting closer.

Chin up buddy, if you ever need me to come over and drink all your beer let me know, oh and offer some advice LOL

Thanks 71, Lee and Steve for your thoughts and wishes. But I'm sure Steve if you came over that bloody Birchall bloke would be here too and I dont want that lol.

Actually, Dave has already offered and I appreciate the help that members of this VW community have offered. Maybe one day I might get to a point where I will gladly have you over for some advice, beer and a chin wag :)

Thanks, Kevin

Kev.. You're a decent bloke mate.. I'm sure people close to you know that and you should also know that yourself.. Take whatever time you need and put your hand up when you want some help.. You will be flooded with people wanting to help.. All decent blokes (and gals) too.. (yes, including Birchall)..

I'm at my factory waiting for a buyer to arrive to see my beetle.. I'm selling it because I want to finance something else.. The price will be half what the build cost.. Them's the breaks.. we don't do it for financial return.. We just love metal that moves!! And just for some inspiration.. Here is the girl.. Detailing her at the moment for possibly the last time.. What beautiful curves...

Chin up mate.. Your cars Hot!

Well guys, I have a little update and one that has got me very excited. I have just had the engine running and it sounds great. I am one very happy little camper (not camp :-).

I had been thinking about turbo'ing and fuel injecting one day, but after starting this engine up and listening to it, it sounds like its got balls. I have no idea of what HP she will have, but it brings a smile to my face listening to the engine.

In this video (only on my phone) you seem to hear the straight cut gears more than anything, but I can assure you when you are standing next to it the exhaust is loud.

Now I have to get to work and start on the car body again, as I have done sweet F.A over the last 12 months. I hope I can stay on this high for a little while as I feel great at the moment and want to finish the car now. In reality there is still a fair bit of work to do. First job is to finish prep work and get the car painted.

Catch ya later, Kev

NOTE: Yes, I know the exhaust is on wrong. Just had to do this to run it as need a spacer made for flange area as muffler hits rocker cover when on correctly (due to stroked engine).
