Carb selection
I already have a 30 pict carb to fit to my 1916 cc T1 engine and i am trying not to spend any money.
I know i am gonna lose heaps of power by replacing the 40 idf webers with a stock carb, but i have had enough of playing around with the webers. They
are just too big for my engine especially running stock valves.
What i wanna know is will the 30 pict carb be enough to feed my engine? if it is way to small and will not work at all does anybody have an extremely
cheap 34 pict or a set of kadrons they want to sell?
Cheers.

40 IDF Webers too big for a 1916 - what the !?!?
I'm running 44 IDF's on my 1916 and although I'm still tweaking things, no way would I ever consider going down in carb size. Admittedly mines got
larger valves, but I also ran 40 IDF's on my old 1835 which had a bog standard top end, and they were also pretty sweet. That said, getting twin
Webers running right can take a lot of mucking around - trial and error type stuff, tweak/recheck multiple times, but its definitely worth it in the
end.
What makes you think they're too big - and what vents, mains, idles and airs are you running ??? There's a huge range of adjustment available by
changing those things, and even tiny changes can make a huge difference in drivability...

OK - just read your other post about the fuel tank breather, which listed some sypmtoms for your carb problems.
Popping, farting, backfiring normally means lean, timing, or both. Fouling plugs normally means running rich. Having both happening on an engine
isn't normally a symptom of carbs that are too big - it's more likely that they're just not setup right/suitably for your engine.
Take a read of the Carbs 101, 102 and 103 tech articles on http://www.aircooled.net -
that's if you're not determined to get away from the twins...

Thanks anyway but Yeah i think i've had enough of them, I just don't know enough about webers to keep on top of them. And the money for that matter!
i have already spent around 800 bucks just on jetting and tuning and it's still not right. The place that did the work is convinced that it was all
done right too. I can't afford to do it all again. I have a mate who tunes them once a week but thats about as far as he goes. I know i'm gonna miss
the power coz when they are running good the car hoots! She's a VL eater! I have a few mates all with vw's and this is the first time we have tried
webers so none of us really know anything about them. They are constantly going out of tune? don't know why? They just seem to get richer and
richer... I don't know what to do really, i'm just broke and looking for the best option for my dollars. I know where there is a set of kadrons for
500 bucks and i'm sure i could get more than that for the webers? with linkages manifolds and kick ass air cleaners. i dunno...

Yup, OK - fair enuff. Webers are a bit of a learning curve, but once right they shouldn't be going out of tune.
Kadron's are reasonable, but not great. I ran them for a few years on a 1640 when I was in the phase of wanting cheap reliable performance, and was
pretty happy with them really. Nowhere near the tuning options that you have on a set of Webers, but definitely a lot easier to understand.
I'll shoot you a PM with some thoughts also.

For what it is worth i run a 34 Pict re jetted on a "stock" ish 1916
While it doesnt do the power of my old 1776 with dual IDF36's it makes a great daily driver and not once have i had to play with it in over 4
years.
LOVE webers but for a car that is my "buisness" car that MUST start first time EVERY day, i will stay with the Pict
Futue te ipsum!!!
