FS 1960 Karmann Ghia - PRICE DROP (need to get serious about sale)

G'day Guys and Gals

(Have dropped price to sell)

Seller's Name – Brad White
Suburb / Post Code – Shailer Park / 4128
Item Description including Brand – 1960 Karmann Ghia
Condition – Very Good
Item Cost - $27,500 total package neg
- will consider Boat Trade
Email - bradleywhite@logan.qld.gov.au
Mob - 0421 994 220

Well I never thought I'd do it but with family and lifestyle changes at the "blup58" household it is with some reluctance that I am putting up the Karmann Ghia for sale. Those of you who know me and/or the car will have seen the enjoyment my family have had in this girl - we have had trips to many VW events including Nambucca and Warwick plus many joy rides around South East Queensland.

I bought this car a few years ago in excellent stock condition (well pretty much stock) - didn't even have seatbelts at the time. Over the past few years we embarked on a transformation to my liking - my intention with the car was to create a look that was somewhere between a showcar/weekend warrior/period racer with original and period styles.

So to give you an idea of some specs, mods and features please refer below:

1960 Karmann Ghia
Colour - Silver Metalic (RECENT RESPRAY BY DAS RESTO HAUS)
Wheels - Polished 16" Fuchs
Tyres - Falken Azenis Front 205/50 Rear 205/55
Disc Brakes - Front Type 1, Rear CB Performance Kit - Dual Master Cylinder
Front Suspension - 2" Narrowed KL Pin with adjusters + CB Performance Drop Spindles
Rear Suspension - Custom IRS Conversion

Interior:
Four Point Roll Cage with retractable seat belts and provision for 4 point racing harness (Driver and Passenger side).
Front seats - Porsche Leather on modified seat frames
Flat 4 Wood-rim Steering Wheel
Scat Drag shifter
Custom Stainless Steel Muffler
Shifter relocated back for easy reach

Autometer Carbon Fibre Guages – 5” Monster Tacho, Oil Temp & Pressure, Volts
Stereo - Alpine Head Unit and Amplifier
Type-R 6 1/2" front Speakers
Type-S 12" Subwoofer

Gearbox (Rebuilt by Dangerous Dave)
IRS box with super diff, and HD side cover.
4.125 ratio "O" series crownwheel and pinion, (very strong one from VW 'Thing' 181 - very sought after)
3.80 first ratio, 2.06 second, 1.32 third, 0.88 fourth gear.
It has steel shift forks and hardened keys and 3rd and 4th have welded synchro hubs for strength.

Engine (Rebuilt by Dangerous Dave)
2110 cc
82mm forged scat crank;
5.5 inch carillo rods;
90.5 mm bore,
8 dowelled lightened flywheel
Street eliminator heads, ported/polished
42 x 37.5 manley valves, dual springs,
1.5:1 rockers;
chromoly pushrods and retainers
FK87 cam,
as21 case,
48mm dellortos,
deepsump,
fullflowed,
external cooler/filter,
30mm oilpump,
berg linkage & pulley,
Berg 1 3/4 header HPC Coated;
2300lbs kennedy p.plate
New clutch plate

Whilst I'm not one to be influenced by awards, nor has it ever been my concern to get any - the car has been luck enough to pick up a few - Dubs by the Pub, Runner up Air Cooled Class Warwick, Top 10 at Valla and there is another I need to check on.

Performance wise the KG has achieved a best of mid 15s in the quarter mile and high 9s (from memory) in the eighth mile with quite a bit of wheel spin - but no doubt if someone out there is prepared to drive a bit harder you may tweak these times.

Not to name drop but my brother-in-law Alan (Dasdubber) has helped me out along the way, provding lots of hands on works and advice whilst the KG has been in my possession and undergone the transformation, gives you an indication of attention to detail. All mods listed above have been certified and blue plated by an automotive engineer in Brisbane including the seat change, roll cage, disc brakes, engine change etc. So how much????

I am asking $27,500 and whilst my preference is for outright sale I am negotiable on final outcome i.e partial trade + offsetting payment

Purchase price + mods prices the car well over this asking price - serious interest only please.

Thanks

Brad

Brad is just using family as an excuse - he has already put a down payment on a new Hyundai Getz with fully sik 17in wheels, and wickedddd stezza maaate.

Seriously though, this car will make someone very happy as I always get out with a smile on my face after having a drive (and no, Brad's hands stay on his side of the car thank you).

I'm sure you have more pics brad, but here are a few I found:

Thanks Al - you know my hands have a mind of there own.

Just a quick one for people to note - the photo above shows the old muffler, have had a much nicer one built since.

Andrew/Nick - thanks for the well wishes, it was a tough call but have made the decision, in reality I think its a reasonable price for are really nice car, no doubt if/when it sells the buyer will enjoy.

That is a beautiful KG Brad.
I would guess it would cost twice that much to build one with the same specs.
Don't let it go for a cent less!

For anyone considering kGhia I must say haveing spent a few hours under this one that it is a very nice example and no corners where cut. The car was modified around the wheels and they clear well and look awesome. There have been a lot of hours put into making this a very sweet ride.

Well worth an inspection as you will not find any issues .. well priced to boot..

G'day Guys/Gals

The better half has said I need to get serious about the sale of the KG.

Price drop to $27,500 - (includes recent respray, detailing of the Fuchs and new chrome trims).

Will need to list on carsales, and no doube eventuall Ebay, if the right buyer doesn't come out.

I'll try and include photo of how the Fuchs now look.

Cheers

Brad

Yeah, if I had the money I'd be SERIOUSLY tempted....

... actually, no I wouldn't... it'd be parked in the driveway already !!!

:tu:

Gorgeous car, and would be stoked if my KG turns out anywhere near as well. Kinda like look of the front end too Al, giving me more evil thoughts....
