Type 3 Notchback

Hi guys new to the forums and vw scene in general and would just like some information regarding the model as stated in the title.

Into old Japanese cars but can't get over how cool these cars look. Also like the wagon variants but only the ones with smoother tailgate....would anyone happen to know what year model it is?

I would like one as a daily driver/cruiser and have no idea on what is a fair price for one as i have been into the JDM scene. After one that has no rust in immaculate condition. There is a blue one on carpoint for 10k. is that a fair price?

New to Type3s' so any help would be greatly appreciated.... On the other hand if someone is selling a notch or early wagon... :)

hey mate. glad to have you with us, and gladder you're a type 3 man.

basically, when it comes to type 3's there are 2 models, early's and late. early ones look pimp daddy decked out where in my personal opinion, a late notch/square(variant) looks tougher. whil;e the general idea of the is the same the later early shapes and late models are 12volt, twin carb and have irs.
as for pricing, you generally get what you pay for. if you see something you like, ask anyone on here for an opinion and you'll get it. we're all friendly and happy to help. i had a look for the one on carsales but couldn't find it as i'm at work so was only a quick look. put a link in the thread and we'll check it out.
hope this helps, i'm sure many others will help too.

Hi guys, Thanks for the welcome and quick response :)

the link for the notch i'm interested in; http://carpoint.com.au/used-car/VOLKSWAGEN/1500/Victoria/csn1823713.aspx

unfortunately my budget doesn't stretch that far at the moment. Currently have around $7.5k max to play with. Would that buy me a decent/restored type 3? Browsing through the forums and def prefer the look of early model type3's

Anyone got opinions about the VW store in Pendle Hill, Sydney. Always check it out when i go past on the train to work :)

That car has been on there a long time
It depends on how much you want to spend.
I dont know the car but it seems real nice.

Hi Jo,

nice notch, rat rod style :)

Unfortunately my budget of 7.5k includes getting it on the road as i soon will be out of a job (traveling o/s for a month) and it appears you're located in tassie :(

btw do you know the owner of the squareback in tassie (cream/black roof) it looks immaculate :)

Any more offers :) lol

you can have my 72 slammed for 1500 and spend 6 pimping it out!! hahaha:lol:

just keep looking, there are always some out there it can just be hard to find exactly what you are after in your price range, but they do come around.

the pendle hill shop, Volksbahn is pretty good. i've been there a few times to pick up bits and peices as it's close to home. always been good to deal with.
there's also classic vee dub at rydlemere and vintage veedub at campise.
that's the ones off the top of my head anyway.
so where are you heading from and too to go post volksbahn?

haha thanks for the offer :)

unfortunately i'm looking for wagon/notch that is mint or been restored, ready for the road as i've got studies/work that keep me occupied. Just not to sure i have the resolve to get a car on the road.... In no rush as it gives me time to save more for an immaculate one.

Thanks for the shop list, should come in handy one day....yeah go past Pendle Hill on the way to the city for work from Blacktown. Find it a more relaxing commute then the car.....except for the occasional smelly / loud music / talking loudly on phone people you sometimes get :)

hahaha yeah i know those ones....

myslef and type_one live out that way. he's at riverstone and me at box hill. we both train from rivo to city.

as i said i'm sure there are more VW shops but those were the first to come to mind.

and saving for an immaculate one is the way to go for sure man, saves so much time and money if you buy one already done....

Yeah that's Jeremy, or 62deluxe on these forums.
Its a nice car.. and was on the market last year some time but he came to his senses and took it back off.. i doubt he would be interested in parting with it now.. but it never hurts to ask!

I'm selling mine if you are still looking. It's time to go. You'd be the fifth owner in 40 years. I need the money to put into my bus, or else I would keep her forever.

PM or email if interested.

hi Rich,

In answer to your question will $7.5K be enough for a fully restored notch - depends on how recently it was restored and to what quality. You can quite easily spend that much on paint alone never mind purchasing the car and doing the rest of the restoration.

I think Ben is selling his notch which was finished only recently - I know he is after around $15K which will therefore give you an indication of what a nicely restored type III will cost. I know this is double your budget, but it will at least give you a comparison of what you can expect for how much money.

Cheers
Al

Dumb question I know, what is the large barrel / tube shaped thingy on the side of the notch, saw one on an EH in Kurri recently and couldn't find anyone who knew what it was.

Air conditioner. Google Vintage Swamp cooler for cars, and you should find something.

Car still for sale in case anyone is interested. Good luck Rich.

Hey people, Rich_C here, couldn't access the site so i had to make a new account, also doesn't seem to work with my firefox, using explorer :(

Well the search is over...know a few of you guys might not like my new purchase but ended up buying a 1973 TA22 celica :) mentioned in my first post i was a fan of old JDM cars and found a clean example, and I was having difficulty finding a suitable type 3. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for helping with the Type3 search, will be dropping by once in a while.

btw....gutted i missed out on the VW nationals, anyone know where i can find pictures from the event?
