Running heaters-Advantages, disadvantages
Trying to consider if i should run my heater channels. I think i may need to for the same of rego as you need demisters.
I heard a few theories.
One, being that you want to keep as much cold air around the engine, running your heater channels reducers that for some reason (on a 1916), not sure
of the in's and out's of that.
Two, running the heaters removes moisture from the heater channels, i've also been told it adds to it, which causes rust.
Three, any other thoughts?
This may have been raised before, i am unsure, but i want to know if i should plug or run the heater channels. ITs not a daily driver so im not to
worried about the heating, though if the demisters work, this could be handy

I personally have never run heaters in any beetle I have owned, however I do subscribe to the theory on moisture removal thus less risk of rust.
Once a year I spray CRC through a spray gun into the channel from the back. All I can say is I’ve owned it for 7 years and there is no sign of rust
in the channels……yet.
I guess it also depends on where you live. In Qld no real need for a heater.

Heater boxes Yes....
Yes,
I've always run heater boxes in all My air cooled VWs...
its mostly that i need a heater where i live as it gets to Zero C in winter mornings...
My Son doesn't run them as He uses extractor exhaust systems..
I've never had anyone check the demisters in any car...
I do believe that heaters will keep your heater channels etc dry...
I don't believe that you have to run heaters to keep the exhausts cool....
If You only use heaters when its cold...
it doesn't hurt to take any cooling air from the engine..
as it doesn't need as much....
plus thats the way VW engineered it...

I forgot to mention that I spray/pour Fish oil into everywhere on My beetle...
so just about everywhere has a few coatings of fish oil..
under My guards, I first coated with fish oil...
then painted with kilrust paint...
then coated with fishoil...
then painted with pressure pack silver metallic to match the body colour
then coated with fish oil again....
I will add, there was approx 3 - 6 months between each coating..
