Alternator and Accelerator Pump Interference


More problems, this car is really starting to anoy me. Makes me wonder why I didn't just choose a newer car that didn't need everything fixed or replaced.

Anyway, When the new 34 pict 3 was tried to put on, the accelerator pump linkage hits the alternator. Obviously this carb was for a generator model. Is there anyway this can be fixed without buying a whole new carby/ alternator. Mechanic says you can't grind the alternator. Is he wrong?

you just need to change the linkage arm that is hitting the Alt with the correct arm. It's shaped differently so it clears the Alt

ive got by on a couple of engines by shaving the tinyest bit of the alternator and bending the linkage across just enough to clear each other
not an ideal method but it works and will get u out of a tight spot

grinding..


The alt will take it. I hogged (carefully) mine out so I didn't have to bend the linkage (Original Semi-auto carbs don't grow on trees!) .
It's the adjuster nut which interferes worst. Bend that away and you have minimal grinding to do.

I just made my own aluminium spacer out of approx 8mm thick aluminium. I just traced out an inlet manifold gasket onto the aluminium cut it out with a jigsaw, drilled the holes, filed out the centre bore to size and done.

Alternatively you can buy the offset block (as dave refers to above) if you don't want to DIY.

Hi

If you have a trashed inlet manifold you can cut the flange off to use as a spacer.
