F/S type 3 lay back seat brackets

I have a pair of layback seat brackets(1 seat only) for a type 3 lowback seats, came off a 70 model, these enable the seat to fold down and adjust in different areas, rare to find, open to best offer, steve 0409475131.

hi rexy, can you confirm, do these brackets that make the seat back fall backwards further...and if so what is the difference to the factory seats?

or

are these brackets from a squareback that let you fold the seat forward and allow a longer "sleeping area" in the back?

cheers?

Yes thats them but without the plastic covers, they have a bit of black flakey paint on one side and some surface rust but they will clean up well.

What's a fair currency conversion today?.... found an ad that said $6.95 US or $7.95 Canadian. (Hopefully the pic attaches)

One thing to remember if you fit these recliners on Type 3 seats (the ones in the add from Canada is actually a bug as you can see) is that you lose the backrest locking mechanism which is definitely a safety issue. The attachment point for the backrest is changed to the rear by about 30mm so even if a hole was made for the lock lever to protrude through it wouldn't line up with the recess in the backrest. Many of us who drove the early OZ built Type 3s without seat belts were pushed against the dash or steering wheel by rear seat passengers on heavy braking (well as heavy as the drum brakes and skinny cross ply tyres would allow!!). Think twice these days before fitting as it may mean problems at rego time as well.

To fit them, you will need to have the special bolts made which slide in the slots. Also, the plate was held in place at the rear with a small tension spring which attached to the lip of the seat base.

Well you would have to be stopping pretty hard to be hitting the dashboard and hey the beetles never had a locking device on the seat either, plus who wants rear seat passengers anyway:p, i have them in my ragtop and never had anyone hitting the dash in that one yet, the more accessories the cooler the car in my opinion, i would guess these would be hard to find as are the ones for my ragtop bug, if someone is worried about rego you can take them off again and put them back on again after but i doubt anyone would know any wiser when it comes to that with old vws.

Many are now thinking differently to keep their insurance intact. Each year my notch is checked more thoroughly than later vehicles but that I guess depends on state to state laws and individual inspection stations. ALL Type 3 vehicles have had the locking devices for the front seats. Only the OZ produced ones from 64 to about 66 had the lever disabled by VW Australia by bending the lever so it didn't protrude. One way of making them cheaper without the cable.

If it helps, I'll even supply the missing bolts if you like so that they can be fitted. :tu:
