Imaculate Oval (Nearly)

Nicely detailed Oval. The blokes that welded the roof racks on were that professional they even used galvanized pipe and endplates so it wouldn't rust. The interior is tastefully finished in seventies style, with the orange nylon shag pile carpet roof lining glued on. I'm sure with a bit of a cleanup and a buff it would be a concourse winner.:dork:

That's a hard one, there is another thread on Oval dates. If I have the information correctly, the third digit on the pan number indicates the year, but only if it's later than 58 or something like that. You then compare the number behind the spare tyre and if it's less than 6,000 it was built on a Tuesday if the last digit is between 6 and 9. As far as I can make out the pan is a 55 and the body is a 53 or 54. So really I have no idea!:dork:

The body could be anywhere from DEC 53 to June 55. It has all the right parts; hearts, clunker doors, but not the right steering wheel or boot lid.
Can you tell me, is there a triangle plate under the round VW badge on the underside in the bonnet? Does the bonnet have 3 bolt holes on the passenger side mountings and 2 on the other?

What's wrong with the steering wheel?

There is a triangle under the VW sign but I think your having a loan about the two/three bolt thing.:dork:
Is the gear knob an after market one? I've never seen another one like it. Could it be the original pan with those numbers or is it a ringer?

Sorry about the steering wheel. It looks like 56-57 in the original pic with the lower bar instead of the batwing style.
If it has the triangle it has a 3rd bolt hole for the bonnet prop. On later models the bonnet prop goes to one of the hinge bolt holes.
Look after that bonnet, you wont find another in that shape.

I thought you meant another hole for the bonnet mount not a hole for the bonnet prop. It has a separate hole for the prop mount. I might have an engine lid with the right swoopy highlight on it with a bit of luck. Is the gear knob an original jobby?

Should also have a wider mount with a really big spring if you have the correct bootlid.
I'll see if I have got a photo of mine if you like.

This is what it should look like. I couldn't find the massive spring that goes with it. It is packed away somewhere.
See how the plate is really wide. Good luck T54

Nope it was that medium blue colour. I'll have to pull those side blinker things off and put some of those flappy things in. Would semaphors of a single cab fit?
