Installing/sealing windows

I need to get my windows put in on my beetle and i have been given some very different prices. The more expensive guy says that he seals them with a cork compund. Is this needed for beetles? This guy reaken its needed so that the windows don't leak. I assume this would be a good precaution for rust issues also.

Any comments on past experience/price or good blokes to use???

Cheap price is approx. $30 per window, expensive guy averages around $70 per window.

I have always done my own and not found any problems. I just use the basic cal look seal with no lube or sealant.

I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

Hi

Its a very easy job, what ever you do don't seal the windows, VW rubbers do not require sealing, the sealing compound will block drain holes in the body and cause rust. I just use some nice cord, like window sash cord but a little thinner and diluted car wash to make it slippery.

The back window is the hardest, sides and front are much easier, even $30 per window is a bit rich.

I've never fitted ones with the trim...

but some people can fit them

[You either can or can't]

or wreck them,

I really like the look of the trim...

the later model 1303 beetles had plastic trim...

I use venetian blind cord... fairly thin and won't break
just keep Your eyes [the two in the back of your head]
on the cord as it can bite into the rubber...
even electrial cord can rip them...

it IS a two man job... 3 may be better..??

If You are using a new laminated windscreen
just be careful as its not as tough as the original safety glass which is toughened..
soapy water or KY jelly is recommended as a lubricant
Do not use Armorall....

I hope You find someone...
there will be a few of them [window putter iners]
at Oran Park on Saturday..
