[FS - NSW] BJ/IRS 1500 Beetle SOLD
Hi all,
just wanna offer this here b4 i subject the poor thing to ebay
its a 70 1500 that ive owned for 7 years and ive come to the realisation that i just have to many cars and projects and im never gonna get the time to
finish this one and i need the garage space back
i want it to go to someone who will finish it off not just use it for the floor pan or whatever
the previous owner did a fairly substantial $12k body off resto on it in the early 90s
it was a rotary powered cal looker with a typical rake, early 6 volt gaurds and lights, black and chrome 911 fuchs and Tbars
my plan was to change the rotary conversion over to EJ20T subi and turn it into a circuit/hill climb car
so all the rotary and conversion kit has been sold and ive ripped all the water cooling stuff out cos i wasnt happy with it
as it was gonna be a track car i didnt put a huge amount of effort into the paintjob
its ok but for a nice street car u'd repaint it properly
heres a rough list of whats been done
FLOORPAN -
new floorpans with some sort of rust proof coating **edit- im assuming there new was told if memory serves, was 7 years ago but eitherway theyre in
perfect cond
late type 3 wagon IRS conversion with larger torsion bars and double springplates
DC type 3 gearbox
Berg style gearbox brace
Box section reinforced chassis forks to prevent twisting
red urethane gearbox mounts - a bit sad
Koni adjustable Rear shocks - old but good
ive put stock bug brake drums as the type3 ones were only tapped for porsche not studded
10mm main fuel line and 8mm return line for EFI (stock vw is 6mm)
disc brake front end powder coated red (another spare BJ beam comes with the car)
sway away adjusters on both top and bottom
caster shims
eccentric camber adjusters
stock brakes work fine just need adjusting
BODY -
its been repainted and stored undercover since so theres NO RUST ANYWHERE!, its never been a rusty car to start with anyway
the only previous rust repairs i found when i rubbed it back was a few little holes around the windscreen and a 5mm hole in the back gutter
dechromed/badged properly - i mig'd them up not bogged over
removable fiberglass back valance buldged FI type
shaved fuel door and early tank fitted
1 piece windows
colour coded baby turbo mirrors
correct 70 guards and engine lid fitted (old ones were from a 62)
front valance and wheel well modified for radiator
ive got the running boards for it under the house
INTERIOR
Honda Accord seats (drivers side need the runners re welded to the floor)
VS commodore grey velour front and rear door panels
black carpet headliner
no carpet
all heating equipment has been removed inc heater channel ducting
gauge panels
all electrics , speedo and fuel gauge work cept i broke the blinker stork but hazards work still
as its obviously an ideal subi or rotary (bleh) conversion car im happy to sell it with no motor
so if anyones interest in it like this
make me an offer around $1500
or if u wanna keep it VW poweed ive got a standard front clip that can go with it
and the engine in the pictures can be included
its a '74 AR 1300 twin port but its been fitted with new 1600 heads and cylinders, 1600 carby and manifold, the bottom end is reco'd and the gennys
also been reco'd
its done about 10,000kms most of which were in my white Lbug
its got a hotdog extractor system which is a bit on the loud side and theres some rust holes in the heater boxes
i make me an offer around $2k for it with the engine
the stock rims have pretty ordinary tyres but ive got a set of shiny hotwire mags ill include for $200 with 3 new bridgstones and 1 rooted one

After a quick sponge Bath

Thats pretty nice, i've got a 1970 non irs (damn).
I'd like to ask though, i see that you have no bumpers but you have them stoppers on it. Can you actually register beetles without them as well?
Im into the flat look without bumpers but how much of a prob is it to register them?
Thanks

thanks,
its had the Tbars for about 20 years and they suit it well specially with the fuchs it had or even the hotwires
yes there illeagle now but the last time this thing was registered (about 93) they werent
u can have no bumpers at all without Tbars as long as u have the front plate mounted some where and the exhaust doesnt stick out to far and prob fill
in the slots
theres still a few bugs getting around with them
qld'ers obviously get away with them cos of no annual RWC but they can be defected as a dangerous protrusion here
