Fuel tank outlet.
Which way is the fuel tank outlet elbow supposed to point on a 69 Beetle? Seems that the hose must have an awfully tight bend in it for it to go onto
the pipe from the tunnel.

It should point roughly towards the wheel on the outlet pipe side, make your hose long enough to lift the tank up. When installing the hose put a
twist in it so that when lowered the hose coils up (makes a loop) beside the frame head. Shouldn't foul up unless your outlet pipe is bent?? Just
make sure you have the right tank for your model as well. The earlier model tank (pre 68) that fills up from under the bonnet tend to hang a bit
lower.

Yes, many people have fuel problems after having the tank out and replacing the hose
which kinks and cuts off the fuel supply...
I have My fuel filter under the tank along with the electric fuel pump..
as you can see, I install the fuel hose to the steel line after the tank is installed..

Thanks fellas. Just tryiing to keep it tidy. It does sit fairly low and if I position the elbow towards the rear it sits more or less on top of the
pipe from the tunnel. Only way is to point it off to one side and use a longer piece of hose. maybe it is an earlier tank like adsman suggested. Too
late now she is all clean and painted.

Thats no big prob if tank earlier. 64 tank in a 71 - seen people rotate the hose outlet further forward to compensate. Other option is to make up a
frame to sit between the tank and body to raise the tank 3/8 inch or so. Looks the same once the carpet is re-installed.
Just one more thing while the tank is out, clean the little filter inside the bottom of the tank at hose fitting. That is if it still has one or you
haven't already.
