VDO tacho for late models

Does anyone know what a fair price is for a VDO tacho to suit the factory gauges on a late model ( '72/'73) type 3?

Does anyone have one?

Cheers

No not the standard gauges (clock on left, speedo in the middle and fuel/gen light/oil light on right), but the VDO tacho often used to replace the clock but with the same style face/needle/numbers etc.

One that looks like the original grey faced gauges will cost you USD400 for a repro, if you can find one. They are made by Tacho Thomas and have TT on the bottom. An original VDO one is almost impossible to find.

Check out this site for details of all the type 3 tachos: http://neil.us/type3/tach/

My favourite Accessory  The Australian Black face VDO Type 3 tachometers come up on ebay a few times a year. I have seen them sell for $140 to $250 Au. Usually the red line is faded, and watch out for cracking of the plastic face as the numbers are directly printed on the perspex and can't be easily replaced.
A much rarer German Black face VDO Type 3 tacho sold recently in the USA for about $500 US.

I might talk to you about this one as well Angus! It's in my Notch but only because I had it. Personally I'd rather the clock in it. I'll check to see if my clock still works. You'll notice I have put a chrome ring on and painted the trim inside grey to match the other instruments................ or maybe I changed the original one for an early one from a clock????? Too long ago. I'll see if I can find the black outer. Not sure if that inner ring is the same taper/minor diameter as the later one. Can someone check?

Dallas, you may as well just transplant your shed to my house at Wynnum. It'll love it, sea-breezes, water views......

I'd be interested in photos/prices/conditions from yours Dallas and type3kids. I'm looking at a complete console as well, just got to get some more detail on that.

Cheers

i've got a console collecting dust too, no guages. just a shame some idiot cut out a section for a cd player.
i'm actually looking at getting it duplicated. my mate is a boat builder and quite handy with carbon fibre and fibr3eglass
