Looking like I will be moving to WA from the UK early 2009 the question is ...
Is it worth shipping my bus?
LHD, 1967 13 window deluxe - I bought in LA & shipped to the UK last year, do I ship again?????

Jon - Thanks for the note & link to website, will check it out!
Real pain about not being able to run lowered suspension in WA though - what's that about!?
My bus has been IRS'd,custom made narrowed front beam with adjusters & drop spindles (Franklin Motorworks Washington USA)
After all the effort & modifications that's gone into it, don't want to return it to stock! May have to go over east if I want to bring my bus
then!?
Other modifications - 17 inch chrom torque thurst rims, engine has been "breathed over" slightly, disc brake conversion & the westy interior but
sure the interior wouldn't be a problem!?

If you can re adjust the ride height for a inspection it will be OK but i dought they will accept the narrowed beam which is not a huge issue but i
imagine will cause some dramas with your wheels with a full width beam.
Don't let body work get in the way of real suspension travel

the wheels n tyre combination must not alter the track (manuf spec) by more than 1 inch- yep 1 inch!!!! i'm building a baja at the mo, the manuf
design is 4,1/2J x 15 which means i cannot go larger than 5,1/2J on a standard off set!!!!
the overall diameter of the tyre must remain thre same as manuf design! but the rim may be increased or decreased as you like!!
if the inspector "knows" about splittys he may request an engineers report for the IRS!
fit a standard beam for the pit inspection, once you have the ticket (reggo) you can do what you like just dont get caught!
the interior must be "safe" i.e, not harm occupants in the event of an accident!?! one of my cars failed a pit inspection cos there were no door
cards!!
if you need more info just shout!

WOW you guys have it tough over there, no such worries here in the UK. Provided your ride is deemed "roadworthy" via the MOT you can do what you
want (within reason!!)
Oh well better make the most of this summer in the UK!!

chillman, its not THAT bad, once you have passed a pits test (not as strickt as an MOT, no emmision teast, no brake test, no rust hammer) theres no
annual test, so basically once you've passed the pits test your car may never have another inspection EVER. some cars really look like they need an
MOT!

hey chilliman,
lots of us out here are running 4.5 inch narrowed beams , my ride is set up just like yours with a home made 4 inch beam and home made bolt in IRS ,
get your bus out here the way it is and one way or another you will get it registered, don't let these people scare you off, sweet ride

So basically you'd be better off importing a stock VW then doing all the mods once there in Oz after the inspection.
How are the other states on their regs? Say you get the test done on the east coast then just have the bus shipped to the west?

ummm, has anyone pointed out that to replace that bus out here would cost at least $30 000, if not $40 000 or $50k if you can find a
seller..............and to build from scratch whoa!
I'm with VW john, it's not that bad...............bring it out, might need to change some things to get it regod at first, then your pretty
right.

Yeah I was about to mention Boomer as well. Check for threads that boomerdog has on bringing his oval out here. Though he is in NSW and not WA, but at
least it will be a guideline for you.

Thanks for the comments guys
Interesting to see the pics of other lowered WA buses on Kombi Konnection, to hear the comment re pricing out there & boomerdog's thread about
importing his oval! ... At least there's no worries about the bus being LHD!
Would ideally like to not have to mess around with the suspension but could always put a stock beam, tweak the IRS back up & stock rims on for
shipping & rego then put the franklins beam & my torque thrusts back on when I am out there!?
Better look into shipping costs I guess?

Well I have just had the OG paint matt lacquered & spent a weekend "stone chipping" the unwelded chassis so he'll be right in the wet (for a
bit!)
But it is alot more fun in the sun, besides I don't have to worry about my safari's leaking! Lol!

Hi Chillman,
I've been here 8 weeks from the UK and my bus has just docked. I'm living in Vic and the bus is IRS'd, airbags with a narrowed beam. The state law
maybe different in this state but I have seen some crackin hot rods slammed to the floor on air etc so guess it may be a case of finding the right guy
to carry out the roadworthy 
But I'll keep you posted when getting mine sorted.

Will be interesting to hear how you get on, out of interest how much did the shipping set you back?
There is a chance I may end up over in sydney rather than WA - more chance of work for me there than over West!!
