Urathane or rubber g'box mounts
Hi all,
slowly getting ready to drop the 1776 into the engine bay, but I thought I would replace the tranny mounts so I bought a set of urathaneones. I am
now having second thoughts. Are urathane better than the stock rubbers? There is no obvious damage to the rubbers and they appear not to be hard. I
was thinking if just doing the rear ones and leaving the front one.
What are peoples thoughts??

i prefer the rubber ones, never had any problems with them, although i have tried the urathane ones, and i did break the gearbox urathane mount! but
seeing as you have them already, give them a go

well the urathanes don't last for ever, especially with oil all over them.......................but yes, since you already have them however, i would
go ahead with the install, they will last many years.

I have run standard vw mounts in my car and have never had any probs .
If it ain,t broke....

I don't have much faith in VW rubber mounts..
My car has only done about 2,000kms in the past 11 years
and I replaced My mounts recently as the old ones looked cracked
but when i took them out...
they weren't cracked etc... just how they looked...
I never have any oil on My gearbox mounts..
I have read about people having problems with the Nolathane ones as they are too hard with no give at all..
Next time i will buy mounts from Wolfsburg Automotive in victoria.. they have theirs made..
Not brazillian etc...

How come no one has ever made engine/gearbox mounts that can be installed without taking the engine out..
it can't be that hard to do...
studs in the bellhousing...??

i had urethane in a couple of mine
they tend to start crumbling after a few years but the climate around this area isnt much kinder to rubber either they perish and crack eventually
main downside with urethane ones is they transfer abit more noise and vibration than stock rubber ones

Hi
I ran them in my old 1302, after 4 or 5 years they still looked like brand new, Im will fit them to my daily 1303 soon, they do transmit some
noise.

Yeah i think I will go for it, I have them anyway and the engine is out and it will be a noisy rough ole ride anyway (3-4" of ground clearance)
